The last three beers I have had form the beer camp case have tasted kind of the same -ish. and that;s the IPA, the DIPA and this one. Dry hopped barley wine form avery. .Avery makes a beer that I thought was the best barley wine I had ever had , their maharajah.

    [IMG] [IMG]

pours a sweet candy orange with a macchiato head of foam that lasts and clings. Creamy , fat . and looks like beer candy. Nose is sweet orange peel and spciy citrusy hop. Cracker. This promises me some sticky citrusy hops. The candied hops are one of the best features of the american barley wine in my opinion and this one has them. What is missing form this to make it a barley wine and to distinguish it from the IPA, the DIPA etc . . . is a ribbon of firm caramel. it's also too bitter.

Now some people who have had this, ok. . . @TheIPAHunter said it has lost something in the translation. I know just what he means. It has a taste like it's very sierra nevada-ey and although the hops start out delicately at first, the beer does get more bitter as you drink. a touch of alcohol on the palate too. Smells like orange juice.

Went to a bottle share last night. Nothing too special, but I did finally get the happoshu tick.

Morning means traffic. Oops. That's normally what it means. Today it means breakfast beer:

Thanks to @Dragginballs76, I am enjoying this Wicked Weed offering. I've had the regular French Toast (I think about the time Wicked turned evil ), but this version is barrel aged.

It seems a sweeter than I recall the base beer, with a woody/tannic tang and extra vanilla. I thought the regular version was good, but this is definitely better to me. I think that the extra sweet notes fit how I perceive French toast better.

With the Canadian talk lately I decided to invite this one to lunch . . .

Light golden color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma is clean grain with a touch of hop seasoning.

Taste is good, not the best, not even really good. What I'm saying is it tastes a helluva lot like Miller High Life without Miller's hop brightness. Flavor is a little bigger than Miller and hops are more noticeable from entry to finish but it seems a bit muddled, almost heavy handed.

Texture is medium with balancing carbonation.

The Bull Moose has been neutered. Years ago this was good beer, rich, flavorful, malty with just enough hop bite. Not so much now. Buyouts, streamlined production, competition imposed price ceiling, whatever, it's changed and not for the better. Today's tasting revealed a beer with less of what made it desirable, less hops, less malt, less balance. Sorta like a committee designed AAL.

A Two Hearted at Flannery's in Chesterton while the mutts get groomed. Stopped in a resale shop for entertainment and passed on this glass.:grimacing:

That's highway robbery at that price! I found two of these down the aisle for two bucks each.

A bad photo but they date from the late 50's - mid 60's when Meister Brau was brewed in Chicago. Sold!

    Enjoy your day people.....
