I was following the Pure Project can release today on Instagram, and they projected over 120 people lined up hours in advance for a can release. I've had a couple of their beers, and thoroughly enjoyed them, but is there any good reason to stand that long in line (hours) for their cans? I feel like I'm missing something. Is the hype real or is this another San Diego beer fad?

Heh. If the two draft pours of Murk that I had on separate days at a bar near my place are representative - nope. Go to TJ's and get some Accumulated Knowledge for $7 a bomber.

Remember when people were complaining about can prices being too high for non-BA adjunct stouts??

Because it's abnormal. That's why. :rolling_eyes:Abnormal should just change their name to "AbCollaboration" since all they do is make mostly make collab beers.

Roughly the same volume as a 500ml bottle so doesn't seem that unreasonable to me.

Only one of the releases out of the five or six they've had required lining up. That Moonraker collab. All the others I've gone there in the 2-3pm range and just walked up to the counter and bought cans. I'm not sure why so many yahoos line up at 10am, although I guess that one release it paid off since they sold out before the line was gone.

Haven't been super impressed by any of them. They're worth getting a 4 pack to try, but even the Moonraker one wasn't any better than the MT cans easily accessible through online purchasing.

Really not liking either of the recent ones. Their IPAs seem super bland or something. Just not much flavor. I think my favorite so far was Goodbye Pluto.

I enjoyed the Hive Mind collab with Alvarado, but wouldn't have stood in line 4 it and was gifted it from a friend.

I like the PP IPAs I've tried at the tasting room and in bars, but haven't gotten any cans yet. Is it regularly solidly above and beyond what MT is putting out in cans?

    Definitely not, IMO.

No, not even close IMO. I don't think very many of them have even been above "good". Agreeing even further with the above poster, Goodbye Pluto has been the only remotely memorable one for me. For the prices they charge and the hype/time commitment needed to get them these days, it should be much better than "good".

Of course, this is all subjective. Just my two cents. Hell, look at their collab stout can with Abnormal. $16 + tax for ONE 16oz can? It's not even barrel aged. I feel like I'm missing something with this place.

Is it just the limited release cans then driving the hype and lines? I notice MT doesn't really get nearly the hype, but I think their offerings have been solid and only getting better as they tweak things. I guess the online releases and bigger batches just don't have that lawnchair (and now office chair) lure.

I think they're good (Triple Dry-Hyped being my favorite). I've liked many of them more than cans from Abnormal and Mikkeller, but not as much as anything Modern Times has put out from Blam! Blam! onwards.

Has the hype died down here? If a friend of mine rolls up in the evening this Saturday, any chance he could score cans of Cannery Row?

I doubt the hype has slowed down but they seem to have started doing a better job limiting cans based on how many people show up. Better option would be to arrive closer to 2-3PM if you want some, but with Mikkeller doing a triple release at the same time maybe they won't sell as fast. Worst case scenario he can go to Mikkeller if he doesn't get any Pure cans.

Thanks for the info. He's driving down from the bay area tomorrow so doubt 2pm-3pm is possible. I'll just tell him to hit the area when he can and see what scraps are left.

Pizza Port can release (all locations) starting at noon
Pure Project double can release at opening
Mikkeller triple can release at roughly opening, the TIPA they plan to have finished canning at noon when they open, but plan for it to be a little later just in case.

Anyone have any insight on Pure Project can releases these days? This thread hasn't been updated since last summer, but I'm wondering how the hype and lines are these days for their Saturday can releases.
