Had this beer for the first time last November, on the day before Thanksgiving. I remember being taken aback by how good it was. Can't wait to have it again.

I will be purchasing a large quantity of backwoods bastard for personal consumption.

One of my favorite's from Founders. Someone's going to have to hide a few from me in order to age it...

i've been lucky enough to never really have much trouble scoring some Backwoods Bastard. i remember last year there were some 4 packs kicking around boston about a month after it hit shelves. it was around even longer in GA. one of my all time favs!!!

i bought two 4 packs last year and a couple loose bottles, intended to age a 4 pack.... drank all but one bottle within two weeks. glad i did though, because i sat on a bottle for about 8 months before drinking and thought the toffee/vanilla/bourbon taste from the barrel had faded considerably. ITS READY TO DRINK FRESH!!

    edit: for inebriated grammar.

Hell no. Waste of good bourbon.

Maybe a baby rock of ice in there no bigger than a quarter if the glass is more full and the evening in hot.

They weren't. I was mistaken. They are 9/23/11. Haven't cracked one open yet, but hoping they held up ok (considering that if they've been sitting at new beer for a year in the sweltering summer heat they could be pretty nasty).

Woo! Got two bottles of this stuff at a store by my house, from 2010 and 2011. They were 7$ and 6$, respectively. I can't wait to see the difference a year makes in this stuff. Hopefully I can nab some 2012 and get the full spectrum going.

There is a nice difference between the two ... I think that you'll love them all!

Damn.. I'll be on a overnight business trip to Grand Rapids next Thursday.. I'm from ATL, and will stop by Founders for sure Thursday evening.

Wish I could get some of this there, but I"m a few weeks early!

You know what guys, I've told myself I'm on a buying freeze especially after BCBS. I have never had the opportunity to try Backwoods Bastard and the way you guys speak of it here in this thread I must come out of hibernation and at least try to find a four pack especially since I love bourbon beers.

I kept a couple of bottles from last year and drank recently and found that it did not age well (lost some flavor, kinda flat) - anyone else have this experience?

Mine was kinda flat too. However, that wasn't the biggest issue for me. It's a pretty high ABV beer, and I felt like whatever it was that succeeded at masking the ABV when it was fresh, faded, and left nothing but the booze.

I remember even two years ago this sat on the shelves for months. Now I better git my lazy bum out the day of arrival. Similar but better than the Boulevard Rye-on-Rye, and the 4x12oz. warms my heart...

Is the distributiong cut down this year for this? Every year in GA we have a bunch of it sitting around and it is easy to score multiple 4 packs. But most in this thread make it sound like getting a single bottle this year will be a miracle.

Nope, just the hype train coming through. Here in SE Mich I can get almost a full case between multiple stores.

Awesome. I was JUST talking to my fiance last night about how fantastic this beer is over a dirty bastard from the variety case. Its pretty much my favorite Founders Brew.

I'm probably in the minority- but I think its way better than KBS.
