I'll be visiting SF next week. I'm there for work and my schedule will be tight however I'm hoping to score a few cans. Regardless of cans or not I'm stoked to try some of these brews!

Any tips you could offer would be much appreciated!

Specifically Fieldwork cans? Now they usually announce can releases the week of, and typically sell out that day (within a couple hours, sometimes).

Also Fieldwork isn't that close to SF, if that's where you're going to be based. It's roughly 45 mins away by car due to traffic.

If you are without a car, I would take BART. Jump on the Richmond line and take it to the North Berkeley Station. From there you can take like a $6 Lyft or Uber ride.

I'll be staying in Oakland (Marriott on Broadway) so not too far away. Yeah, looked like they would announce a can release like he Day of or the day before on Twitter. Looked like 11 or Noon usually?

Do they sell out before 5 usually? Is there usually a long line that starts forming like an hour or two before?

The more I think about it the less likely it seems I'll score some cans. Thursday's gonna be a tight day for me and same day I fly back too. I'm coming out from Boston so maybe I should bring some Trillium for IP trades instead? I've got a few from last week and today they just announced DDH Melcher which a lot of people love.

It's not the same as 16oz cans but... they also do crowlers of most of their beers.

That's a good point and a crowler has got to travel better than a growler. Thanks!

You should be able to find someone to do an IP trade of the latest can release Grove Stand for some Trillium.

Good deal, I wasn't sure if that would be the case or not and didn't want to assume. Thanks!

I got the last 6 pack of Grove Stand cans at the Sacramento room a few hours ago. It looked so lonely in their cooler. Got a growler too and had a glass of Eliza. The Grove Stand is in a close tie with Super St Thomas and King Citra for my favorite FW IPA's but I'm giving the edge to Grove Stand.

How is the Eliza tasting this year?

Bummed I miss cans since I was out of town last week.

The Eliza was tasting quite well last night - nice flavors. I got a growler of St Thomas also and FW just announced that they've released cans of the same. They have a pretty nice lineup right now.

Looks like PULP IPA is the closest Fieldwork is going to get to a "Flagship" beer.

Another Pulp can release on 6/18 for Fathers Day.

The last few batches of Pulp have just been outstanding.

Yeah Pulp is a worthy flagship. One if the best beers I've had this year Nationwide.

If only I didn't have to cut back on my beer consumption this summer to save my wallet and midsection... And marriage lol

Not to be a hater as I do want to love this place but their beers simply don't stack up. Had my wife grab me growlers this winter when she was in Berkeley. Was amped to try them then was really confused after drinking them. Didn't even get close to the expectations. Stopped by Napa tasting room today. Great staff, great space. Tried 10 different beers and honestly was not into any of them really. Dig the branding, the vibe, everything. They say all the right words and use all the new hops but man the beers just aren't there. Very unbalanced and honestly taste like something I would brew, not high end commercial beer. They should make less beers.... better IMHO.

I sort of agree. I think they have a handful of super great ones, in the 4 - 4.5 range, out of 5. Pulp, King Citra, Saint Thomas, Coconut Milk DIPA, and Imperial Hot Chocolate are all up there, for me. There have been at least a few that I had heard good things about that I wasn't impressed with, and bunch that didn't get any hype and also weren't great.

I do love the ones I mentioned though... man, nitro cans of Imperial Hot Chocolate would be BOMB.

There are times when they don't have any top tier stuff on tap. It's possible your two experiences may have occurred during those times. A quick look at the Napa tap list, according to their website, shows the only top tier beer available is the current batch of Grovestand, which happens to be the best batch so far. I tried it sometime early last week and wasn't expecting much but it had a smooth, thick mouthfeel with a lot of papaya and mango in the taste. Outstanding as far as I'm concerned. You missed out on St Thomas, which was also equally excellent.
