Starting today off with a crowler of Singlecut's Weird and Gilly IPA.
L: Dark orange color with about a finger and a half of head that fades 4
    S: Citrus fruit 3.75
T: A mix between grapefruit and orange with bitterness on the finish 4.25
M: light carb but that is probably because it's an older crowler. Nice mouthfeel.3.75
O: A nice easy drinking NE style IPA. I'm sure it would have been better fresh 4/5

Marz Barrel Aged Corrupt Polish Imperial Stout

Happy Fathers Day, BAs. This bottle of BA Corrupt with Dark Matter coffee came courtesy of the generous @FFFjunkie on the tail end of the Can Can BIF.

It pours a very dark brown, approaching black, with a finger-and-a-half of soupy, dark khaki head. It eventually settles into a thick crown that leaves almost no lacing.

Light smoke and umami stand out in the aroma, with hints of vanilla, hazelnut, toffee, cherry and bourbon behind. A ton of depth here.

Again, it has some umami and light smoke up front in the taste; nothing over the top, though. Bourbon and some light, bitter coffee show on the backend. There's a definite cherry note again, but marshmallow and a little cocoa seem to replace most of the hazelnut, toffee and vanilla from the nose.

It's medium bodied and slightly oily with moderately high carbonation.

Honestly, I'd been skeptical about this one given the kielbasa-like things on the "Polish Imperial Stout" label, but this is pretty tasty. The bourbon and coffee are both very light, but there's a surprising amount of depth in here. 02/22/17 bottling date.

    Stay cool, everyone.

Pours hazy gold. Foamy, medium, white head that lasts a while with good lacing.

Smells grapefruit, citrus, pineapple, mango and pepper.

Tastes citrus peel, grapefruit, mango. Followed by pepper, light pineapple and vegetal hints finish is dry with citrus peel linger. Fuller side of medium body and creamy medium carbonation.

    Good afternoon NBSers.

Well first let me say that likewise in New England or some other part of America, the spring is hot, very hot, the temperatures have reached 95F and will go up for the next week here in northern France. Not unusual for the season, it takes some time to get acclimated so to speak. Not going to complain.

Second, happy Father's day everyone! whether you are already one or one to be, I spent all my Saturday with mine having a barbecue along with his friends, it felt good, he's past 70 and in excellent health. We did drink a bit, exchanged jokes, talked politics and the latest world current events.

Third, ah finally the reason I am posting here. I drove by a small grocery in the evening, just one hour ago actually because they happen to be open on Sunday and sell beers, especially this one I have never tried before... and it should be Triple Secret des Moines, read bellow for more background:

This is the same brewery as the other famous bière de garde ''La Goudale'' hence "Les brasseurs du gayant'' From the northern tip of France.

A 33cl bottle poured into a neutral teku, pouring a 3 inches white head fading after a few minutes. At 8% this is drinkable and honestly the yeast, barley malt and hops are reminiscent of Belgian in the style, yet this is French. Interesting. Unfortunately this may not be available elsewhere in France and in the US or Canada, the UK? I wouldn't know, but keep looking maybe.

I feel a bit silly to have only bought one, as I am staying a bit thirsty now that I am close to finishing it. It calls for one or two more, but thanks to the grocery they had a new beer for me to drink and post in a good thread.

Not much to add, overall, give this a try. It was a bit pricey because I didn't buy it in a regular supermarket or mall but this will become a regular of mine, if given the chance again. A smooth and drinkable French triple from a renowned enough brewery.

Giving this one the overall score of 4.25. Cheers, enjoy your day with your father, your son, or possibly both.

Good day BA's, an happy New Berliner Sunday! I'll go ahead and repeat the obvious as well, and wish a Happy Father's Day to all the rest of you bad ass dad's out there. The Ridge had a nice neighborhood celebration for our resident procreators over at our house last night, and today it's the families turn. They'll be over later this evening and we get to celebrate the newbie dad, my brother in law who just became one less than three weeks ago :grimacing:...! My kiddos gave me a lovely homemade painting complete with foot prints on a piece of tree, as well as a homemade Yoda card. My wife gave me this special message, which expresses the same sentiment @cjgiant referenced in his opener. My father wasn't around when I was growing up and it's something I still hold a grudge about, but I am always thankful he wasn't (in a sick way), because it showed me exactly what kind of father I didn't want to become.

Nothing screams manly father's day beer quite like a bright pink can and beverage .

A: Pours bright pink almost like grapefruit juice, with a wispy foamy even lighter pink head that completely disappears. No lacing.

A: Smells of tart raspberries, maybe a hint if wheat, but not much else.

T: Taste follows. Almost 100% tart raspberries if it weren't for the mild afterthought of coffee.

F: Very light, very dry, mild carbonation, tart and crisp.

O: The thought of coffee in a Berliner seemed odd to me, but getting the light notion of it, I think I'd like more. Overall, this is a nice and refreshing beer. One that's perfect on a hot as hell morning like today. But perhaps not one that I will frequently indulge.

After my official review, I gave this a 4.04, with an rDev of -1.7%.
Cheers everyone, and I will see you all soon!

I was a little surprised to see you post this, thinking you would've taken a shot at it before now. Mostly agree with your assessment of this batch which seems to have a little more tropical/"juice" than last year's which relied a little more on the Sorachi Ace, IMO.

I enjoyed that beer fairly well, for a style I'm a bit iffy on. It seemed to be balancing sweet and earthy and bitter all on the edge of a knife - and managing to accomplish it quite well.

Glad you liked it, was the one of the group I was really interested in what you thought. Cheers!

Appears so. Its really bright out here. It is a new to me beer though, so to make amends...
Appearance is null and void since it is being consumed from a crowler.

Aroma is, excuse me, vomit reminiscent like sour, with some citrus, corriander, and wheat.

There is a significant mandarin orange flavor and some passion fruit, along with a lot of wheat and a touch kf corriander. The wheat flavor lingers like most good Goses.

It is a little heavier bodied than most, drinking more like a lager.

A good beer. I would prefer to have it without the fruit, but that's just me.

I would say around 3.75 overall

Good afternoon to all the NBS followers and faithful and thanks to @cjgiant for the great send off this morning. As you may or may not have noticed I've been absent for the past few Sundays during which my significant other and I have been spending time with a great friend and his wife who is battling stage 4 breast cancer. Given the every week chemo treatments she is getting she is holding up well at this point. Were hoping for some good news at the end of the first 12 weeks but for right now we're trying to help keep their minds on other things when we can.
The cold wet spring has finally ended the drought here in central NH and is allowing our gardens once again to flourish. The lilies are blossoming and well the hostas were doing good until the deer mowed them down last night along with a few other soon to bloom plants. I have tried to get my overgrown sissy of a dog to spend the nights on the porch but I think he is afraid of the dark and carries on way to much when I put him out there. And his sister is even worse than he is about being outside alone. Go figure dogs the size of bears afraid of the dark.
Now it is time to get on with what we come here for the great beers we are all drinking on this Sunday. Today I have chosen Florence from Hill Farmstead Brewery
    [IMG]
This pours a light golden color in glass. A thin white head on top which disappeared quickly. The nose is tart with hints of lemongrass and perhaps a little other citrus thrown in. The taste is crisp and clean. Slightly tart with no lingering aftertaste.
The mouthfeel is pleasant with good carbonation which lasts throughout the glass. A well done beer in this style great for sipping on this hot and humid June afternoon.

    Firestone Walker's Bravo.

Pours a dark burgundy-brown with a finger and a half of khaki-colored foam on top. Fair head retention, with a solid ring of foam left around the top rim of the glass. Lacing is present, but only lightly. Aroma is warm bourbon on the front, with toasted, nutty, and bready malts. A little sweet caramel seeps into the backside of the aroma. Flavor profile is robust, with notes of toasted, nutty, bready malts melding with bourbon, and oak. The bourbon refrains from being hot, or commanding. Caramel, and molasses aid the sweetness right towards the finish of the beer. It finishes dry, with a bourbon and toasted, nutty malts playing the last chord. Mouth feel is grainy, with a filling, velvety texture. It's medium-thick, and grows thicker as the beer warms. Overall, a lot going on here, but it's well calculated and executed. No notes single-handled run the show. Nice bourbon quality to it, with a pleasant, non-cloying sweetness.

On to my next beer. The GF actually ran out, leaving me here to my own devices like @zid. I was going to dig into the SN Beer Camp beers, but since I want to share them with her, I'll have to choose something we have more than one of. Luckily, my side stop yesterday also yielded a four pack from a brewery I was surprised to see. And it's a local brewery...

Beltway Brewing is a contract brewer, as a business model. I recall when I read about the company start up a couple years back and wondered how it might go. So far, so good, it would seem. I've known some local places doing business with them, but their most prolific to date that I've seen is Grimm Artisanal Ales, with whom they seem to have an ongoing relationship (assuming it is still ongoing - if not change "have" to "had").

Anyhow, on their website they do mention they might do one-off batches of their own beers from time to time. I guess we were in the middle of "time" about 3 months ago. That's when they canned this Hansel sour IPA (listed as retired on this site, so that would be the first time in over a year).

My thoughts on this beer are that it seems to be what it says - a sour and an IPA. The flavors just don't work for me in a way that I might wonder if they put any thought into how to combine the two styles. I am sure they did, and though 3 months might have an effect on the hoppy side, I am not counting on it.

The clean sour opening isn't bad itself, but is short-lived initially. A wave of pine needle hops washes over the sour, but the sour fights back and gives me a classic citrus and toothpaste flavor that I do not care for. By the end of the can, I am almost by that, but it's still there. I would be interested in either parts of this beer, it seems like the sour would be a simple, straightforward, clean kettle sour. The IPA seems like it could be a pine bomb. Combined, it's not for me.

Good afternoon, New Beer Sunday friends and family! I managed to find something new to me - although the bottle itself is hardly new. It's also my first new brew since last week's New Beer Sunday.

For a pre-lawn mower lighter brew, I've chosen Vanberg and DeWulf's LambickX unblended Lambic. No fruit, no multiple year blend. That said, my first experience with this brew will be with a 2012 bottle vintage, so it's already had 5 years to grown and develop.

Develop it has, I can only assume. It's quite funky, and moderately tart up front. It reminds me quite a bit of the funkiest saisons, Fantome in particular. The flavors are really fascinating, and it's quite tasty. I don't have much of a baseline for the ratings, honestly.

I've been reading all of the fantastic posts today, but had to come back to yours. My Dad was an amazing Army officer in The Philippines in 1944, a later pacifist, who died at 58 (1976) when I was 25. I was 50 before I knew exactly how much he meant/means to me. The war destroyed him and created him again. I've had a privileged life because of who he was and what he did. He never once bitched about anything but missing a putt here and there. My Daughter has just gotten a wonderful new job in Chapel Hill with a notable non-profit and my son is in the beer industry, currently vacationing in Colorado with we hope his wife to be. I spoke with both of them at length earlier. I'm happy and the circle keeps spinning around!
