Usually I drink IPAs right away but this is Barrel Aged. Same rule applies - drink right away? Or do I hold it?

Drink it now. I cellared one the Backstage bottles of Doom for about three years and took it to a bottle share. The barrel notes were completely gone and it turned into a malt bomb. And a bad one at that.

My vote is to give it away to someone or include it as an extra

Why would you include a nationally distributed beer as an extra? Extras should be beers the recipient cannot get, like locals or limited releases.

Are you saying Doom is not a limited release?

If you have read much on the various Doom threads, you'd see that lots say they could not get it, or only 1, or not more than a 4 pack.

KBS is limited and I don't think anyone would think twice about saying KBS is a good extra.

I agree with the give it away vote. this is by far the most disappointed I have ever been with a Founder's brew. I can't see it get any better with aging.

You are right, my vote then is give it away or drain pour it

Drink it now. Just not as good as the original release, but a solid beer nonetheless.

This beer was so bad, that I couldn't even give it away...

haha I can believe that. Really surprising to see such a massive misstep by Founders. I can't imagine that the brewers even tasted it. Maybe tasted the original IPA, put it in the barrels and then straight into bottles. Anyone have any inside info on what kind of test batches Founders or breweries more generally usually do with barrel aged stuff?

Founders should have tasted this stuff https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/16094/230931/ to see what a proper barrel aged pale should taste like. This was a good drink for the price...
