Pretty simple poll, but not really focusing on quantity of beers consumed in a session, but more for the social aspect with your beer drinking pals, what is the length of time you prefer to hang out drinking beer and socializing as your preferred norm?

I went with 1.5 to 2 although about 1.5 is my preferred sweet spot. Have to caviat though that this is length of time with my core group of craft beer drinking buddies and we get together about once a week. Only so much to talk about when you meet that frequently but 1.5hrs seems to hit the sweet spot. Now when I get together with my college or HS pals and its been over a year or more since we last got together, then yeah, 3+ hrs is most desired, but most of the time is just talking about memories and good times (and according to our wives, its the same stories repeated every time we get together)

We average about a beer per 1/2 hour, so after 4, we are done.

I voted 3 or more mostly because drinking beer is not the point of the get together. It's watching a ball game movies ect.. Unless it's an after work parking lot party than it's an hour or a little more.

depends on which friends or where i am.

i met up with work friends at a bar for less than 2 hours.
in August at my fantasy football draft, my close friends since high school and myself will be boozing all day long

When I'm drinking with friends I usually have around 2-3 low ABV beers during a 2-3 hour period, especially if I'm driving. I have a commercial driver's license, so my DUI limit in CA is .04, basically one beer. But if I'm at home, I may have a few more or enjoy a couple of high ABV beers shared with friends.

There is no simple answer to this question for me, too complicated.

We don't get together very often, but when we do it can be measured in days.

I'd like to have a couple of my usual strong beers, and stay sober enough to drive, so 3+ hours.

To caveat my response, I'll say this: I don't often drink heavy craft in groups. Heavy craft meaning large stouts, or anything rare that I may only get one of. I tend to save those for me time, when I can sip through it slowly, and review it thoroughly, as when I drink those in social settings, I tend to keep to myself and be anti-social.

Despite that, I have some long sessions with friends. I'm talking, pull up in the early afternoon and sipping on beers throughout the day and past midnight. Memorial Day, Fourth of July, a birthday, etc. we can be drinking for a long while. We don't count the beers (they're all pretty darn light anyway), we all just like being around each other, and the beer is a nice addition.

After work at the shithole bar near work, around 3 hours
Bills game on Sunday about 4

That's with good friends, not casual acquaintances

I don't really enjoy spending time with people, so for most sessions my alarm goes off after 60 minutes (75 if they're really close friends) and then I make an immediate exit

As Dennis 3951 stated when I'm consuming with friends it's a social event so it always goes a few hours

Depends on where I am. With work buds, probably 1.5 hours max, since I live across town from most of them, and don't want to get super buzzed (but I also don't wanna nurse. Big gulps = good flavor).

In my hood, easily 3+. F*ck, even all day.

    voted three hours-plus

In a generic scenario, I'd say the length of a football game plus tailgate/pregame and postgame is the minimum. Depends on the friends and the situation, but at least four or five hours.

If its just beer, about 2 hours is enough. Especially for those that have to drive home. Now, if I cooking fish or boiling crawfish, 4 hours or so is prolly average.

I would go with 3+ usually. If we are meeting at the bar for a game, we stay for length of game or two games. If a BBQ that could be all afternoon well into the evening. Work buddies usually couple hours. I guess its all about what we are doing, some days its just 1-2 beers and go, so its really hard to say ideal since a lot is dependent on the occasion.
