@Kanger but really man, I'm dying for one of those. Easily the nicest beer apparel I've seen. Hook a brother up!

Only other reason I've seen for these giant weekly hauls are just to help "friends" in that a different person will go wait in line each week to hook up their friends who can't make it. It sounds like complete nonsense.

Even better is that people are mostly trading IPAs for OTHER IPAs! That taste exactly the same! At least back in the day one was trading a West Coast-style for the NE/VT IPA but now it's just your hazy IPA for my hazy IPA.

I generally hook up 4-6 friends with beer if I go to a release. In turn, when they go to releases they hook me up. I tried trading on Instagram and it was pretty annoying. Unless it's something that I love, I only want a four pack at most. If I sell beer it is at cost to friends.

"At Cost to Friends" should be added to the long list of future OH IPA names that have been spawned from BA OH threads.

I just remember being on line one day seeing the dude's wife wearing a @LorenzoTheBeerCat shirt. At what point in time do you stop and say to yourself "maybe I'm taking this Instagram beer account thing a little too seriously."?

This will bring a huge line, yes. But at 4x4-Packs on what are likely the double batch beers, I can see these cans lasting well into the afternoon. Other Half is doing the right thing here, dropping the case limits. I could also see them lowering the limits even more once they realize the line has reached NJ before opening.

Having said that, the glassware and Pale Ale will be gone almost immediately.

Anyone have a sense of the can supply today (7/4)? Emergency BBQ later today, making beer run at noon...

If I remember correctly Like Whoa was tripple batch and sold out right around noon. However there was about a 20 minute sweet spot that you could walk in with very minimal line and grab it. I feel like it will be the same for this. Assuming the IPAs are double batches and the pale only being 2 4-pack limit it looks to be around 750 total allotments, that's pretty solid.

Take a look at the threads that pop up every now and again where people have 300 - 500 high abv stouts rotting away in a basement somewhere that would take 10 years of steady drinking to knock down.

I am sure this accounts for some of it, trade an in demand 4 or 8 pack, receive 1 high demand stout that doesn't need to be consumed right away in return.

Would love an update if anyone knows if there are any cans left for today -- trying to decide if I should lug my growlers along for the ride too

As others have speculated they must be selling cans for profit so it's become quite a side business for them. A t-shirt would just be advertising for that business. Instagram is inundated with stuff like this.

Was at the Dead and Co show at Citi Field the day of the powdered cheese release. There were numerous people selling cans for $10-12 in the lot. Some of these guys had multiple cases of each and said they either hopped back in line more than once or asked people in line to buy more if they were not getting full allotments.

So that means 400 cases for each of the Imperial IPAs and 200 cases of the pale ale?

It's shit like this that makes me reconsider the craft beer scene as a whole. So shady.

Yeah I was reading Monkish's release page rules, and it seems over the top at first. You then hear multiple rumors about shady shit like this or see people reselling the beer on the internet. I love OH, but it's unclear if the brewery is aware of it or cares.

To be fair - beer prices at events like that should be expected to be quite high. The Dead and Co scene now is probably a much more well off demographic than the people at the Dead show parking lots I hung out at in the 90's.

What's that got to do with illegally reselling beer at inflated prices?

I was there too. Was looking for my friend in Lot C right before going in and couldn't find him. Had 2 extra cans that I couldn't drink so I gave them to a guy in a Treehouse shirt for free.

It means that illegally reselling beer at inflated prices in concert parking lots is a tradition started long before you started drinking beer so no need to be too upset by it.
