    Hey Beer Traders -

It's been a while since I checked in, so I thought I'd revisit this old hot topic: Should we re-enable replies?

    Quick background/things to consider:
    • We once allowed the ability to reply to trade posts, but removed it ages ago due to abuse.
    • Despite the abuse, many (especially new traders) found a lot of value from replies by those who had good intentions.
    • Disabling replies has also caused confusion. We receive "Why can't I reply?" messages almost daily.
I was going to do a simple poll, but I'd rather read constructive reasons for or against re-enabling replies. And if you for re-enabling them, please list any caveats.

    Looking forward to your feedback.

    Cheers!

I see both sides of the argument. But personally I like being able to reply as I think it creates a more open trading market and allows people (new users) to understand value.

So my vote is to open it back up. Thanks

Yes. It's more educational to newer/inexperienced traders and makes for interesting reading. Keep an eye out for abusive comments, but bring back comments please.

I like simplicity of current format with bit more effort needed to engage in discussion around the trade. Experienced traders can BM to advise new traders.

    I say yes.
I watched the ISO:FT forum for months to get a feel for values before I posted my first trade offer. The comments were a great way to quickly learn if you were way off on an offer vs. just waiting for crickets

I'd say bring it back. Adds additional info for noobs like me...and how do I get approval to post in that forum anyway?

Oh man...there are too many times I've been tempted to say some really snarky stuff to wild trade requests, but other times I've wanted to correct or advise someone on the existence or availability of a brew without private messaging them.

I think not being able to reply has kept me out of trouble, but, could also see it being fun and/or helpful, depending on which direction it goes.

Maybe give the Thread creator the option to delete comments on their thread? Otherwise I feel like you might be inundated with Reports for people that don't like their trade requests being criticized or scrutinized.

I understand the educational aspect for value but I see a whole lot of useless and abusive comments out there and sure to follow in the trade areas. It would have to be monitored pretty heavily.

I think you just hit the nail on the head.

Make it an option. Let the thread poster decide.

Do some data crunching after a month and see what the ratios are.

I think it provides a good opportunity for education and information. Many people will provide valuable feedback.

There always seems to be a few users that will make unnecessary or unhelpful comments though. There would need to be some type of "rules" set up to limit the potential negative comments or abuse.

I believe it will make trading more open and transparent. Discussions of perceived value / rarity, etc.. won't be buried in private messages.

Private messages are also tough to juggle if you have multiple offers coming in, or are negotiating several deals at once.

I think it will help with new traders as well...the current system is a little intimidating to get started with.
