No. There would be a base beer that, when dry-hopped, becomes Night Stalker and, when barrel-aged, becomes BCBS. One is not the descendant of the other; they are sister species

They are the same base beer, by GI's admission, not mine. One is dry-hopped and the other is bourbon barrel aged.

Apologies for being pedantic but they *use* the same base beer.

I don't know man. The fact that Kentucky Breakfast Stout is based way more off of the standard Breakfast Stout than the Imperial Stout for one I guess. You could have made the exact same point and talked about the beer that is far more closely related to KBS. You are comparing apples to oranges to make a point and that's pretty weird.

Not all that convoluted - the answer is: it depends. Some will brew specifically for the aging, some hold some back from a regular batch for next year's BBA, some hold the regular back for release at the same time.

Do you guys recommend aging BA Dark Lord?

I have a '17 FVM and Chemtrail. Not sure if i should open them soon or wait a year or two.

    Any thoughts welcomed.

I don't have the answers about these beers, but try doing a search for them in the Cellaring forum and you might get some opinions. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/forums/cellaring-aging-beer.41/

What I've heard over the years for dark Lord is 15 base becomes 16 BA variants, 16 base becomes 17 and so on. This info comes from reading random posts on BA, so take it for what it's worth.

Laws. Nightstalker has always been in the upper echelon for me. I was disheartened to find out that it was dropped.
