I normally tip 20% but only if I'm receiving in house service, not takeaway. I think that's pretty normal.

I just see it as a thank you and there should be nothing wrong with that. And if he's getting a cut of the tips, they're dividing it up evenly which Cam should get more because he practically pulled an all nighter, if he was the only one doing so.

    Typically
$1 per pour in the tap room
    $3 per growler fill
Nothing for can / merchandise purchases

Normal bartender rates on beers in the taproom - dollar per drink. I don't tip if I'm just grabbing cans or a growler.

I just think this should be on OH to make right. Fans can do what they want obviously but we should expect them to take measures so the release is smooth. All the other lineups I've been in are either viciously self-policed or have multiple staff with their eyes wide open. Again, I like that this means OH is getting a very direct "We like and want this!" About line policing, etc. I just think we should expect that for any hyped, 500+ lineup, especially in NYC.

Standard tipping for pours and growlers and usually a buck or two per 4pack on release days.

hmm. interesting on the "not tipping" when buying 4 packs. the guy carrying your case from the pallet is doing much more work than the bartender pouring your drink. I think ive averaged tipping about $4 per case on the 3 releases ive been to.

I just always thought we were tipping for service. I have tipped for cans in the past but changed because of my first sentence. I'll certainly consider throwing them a couple bucks next time I'm picking up cans though.

Yes, OH should be policing the lines. It's the fact that he pulled an all nighter made fans appreciative. Hence a big tip.

Tipping on retail/can/bottle purchases is ridiculous. Especially considering the prices. That whole thing started because of the stupid iPhone squares automatically producing a tip screen.

Typically I wouldn't tip for cans/bottles in a store (where I grab them from shelf/fridge and take them to checkout/register). But in a situation like buying cans at OH I will add a few bucks since they're getting them for you/moving palates(this needed to be done) around/etc.

For pours (in general) these days I've pretty much gone to $2/drink. $1 if it's somewhere I haven't been before and the service is so-so. More if it's a favourite place and I've been there for a while.

Growlers I'll throw in a couple bucks or round up (whichever is more).

So much analysis on this thread of perceived wrong doing by some of the line dwellers, and people are actually complaining about some of those line dwellers to put some of their OWN money to recognize the great work one person did and people are actually complaining about this? Unreal.

I actually don't think one person complained. Just mentioned that it was odd.

I do acknowledge that tipping more than a few bucks for cans is crazy.

I only tip when I'm filling a growler and getting a beer since I do it in the same transaction then I get the f*** outta there. No tipping with cans since I only buy 3 4 packs at most nowadays.

And again that's on OH. It's a nice gesture from fans but if I was a manager, I'd have him split the night with someone for a bonus. Folks acting like there was no other way to do this.

Oh hey Taso. Not complaining, just expecting a big dog brewer to get their shit together. The amount of apologetics for OH is so far off the chart it's absurd.

Love you @rozzom but can't find any reason to tip for buying cans. They already expensive as shit and I see a slippery slope in which if I'm tipping for buying cans then I am tipping for every single interaction and transaction in that damn city. NYC is already making us all pay out the wazoo without us finding new ways to part with our $.

Now that I know I'm supposed to tip when buying cans, could someone let me know who should I be tipping when I go to Whole Foods to get the latest Grimm release? The guy who stocked the shelf? Cashier? Should I send a check to Grimm directly for the 20%?
