Yes. As a moderate trader now, it would've been extremely helpful when I was just getting into it. One reason I stuck mostly to FB and other sites when I first got started. Bring it back.

Agreed with the caveat that it not turn into talkbeer with the rampant thread-shitting and gifs.

I guess it boils down to if it gets brought back BAs here just have to be responsible and not hijack threads and keep the comments limited. Perhaps set a limit 1 or 2 messages to anyone who hasn't created the thread.

Not even close . . . even a quick tally shows "yes" in the high majority.

Best answer I have seen yet. There is no rule against communication right now. A public forum within a trade post isn't additive. Wanna know approximate trade values? Look into "completed trades" and take the answers with a grain of salt or better yet, befriend someone in the community and BECOME part of the community. Share ideas and ask questions and count on others for advice. Being newer, I have been lucky enough to receive advice from the Poobahs and Zealots to help reel me in when being stupid (knowingly or not). It's a learning process and we should allow each trader and BA member to decide whether the trade post has value for them or not. The spectrum of what is fair and what has value varies greatly from person to person and situation to situation.

Comments on trade posts would be troll city, not educational.

I'd be extremely interested in knowing how the Yes/Nos break down between people who were actually on BA while comments were enabled, and those who came on after they were disabled.

Perhaps reenable the feature, but with users having the option of turning off whether they see the comments? I know that this does not address the reason many people are in favor of not having comments, but it's at least somewhat a compromise between the two viewpoints.

Unfortunately, it will come to a point, very quickly, I'm afraid, where you're going to need to monitor all posts and remove/lock the thread, or you'll just remove the reply function once again. If the craft beer community has taught us anything, it's that the majority are trolls, and can't help themselves when it comes to thread shitting.

My grandmother seems to think so!

Sucks, I know. Just way too many people have their own opinions about the secondary market, who love to shit on people's deals just because it doesn't fit their belief as to what the bottles are valued at or not.

Man, you run BeerAdvocate.com! You know exactly what I'm talking about, and also the one who took the function off in the first place. IMO. it's been better off for it.

I do, sort of, but saying that the vast majority of the online beer community are trolls is something that I don't agree with. It's simply not true.

I also think that disabling replies was a bad solution to a problem that we didn't handle well. Basically, we punished the whole due to the actions of a few.

Fair enough. I guess I am being a bit too pessimistic. Either way, love the site. Whatever you decide to do, I'll still be here, active.

100% agree with this - caveat is they are a loud few and the respectful many aren't going to be comment crusaders/police, nor should they. Most of comments won't be, hey that sounds like a very fair trade. Atta boy (girl)!

Don't mind an idea like this, but that can be very subjective and squishy. What comments advocate a warning? What doesn't?

This would exactly why I don't want comments. Whatever happened to the two parties just being happy with a trade? How do comments act as a barometer?
