I began using other trade forums when BA disabled the reply/comment function on trade posts here. ISO:FTs by and large became ridiculous when unchecked/unregulated by other users. And I've hardly checked back here since, to tell the truth.

So while reversing that move might bring some folks like myself back, unfortunately many, many other trading forums have since inherited a chunk of former BAers. So even with the change, it'll be hard to get back to being the big fish in the sea forums (among all the beer trading forums you're now competing with).

    Cheers.

Get what you're saying and agree on the point of the trades just being about each party being happy with the trade. However, and not that I like it, the ISO forum has definitely evolved into a full blown market for trading beer. Having an open discussion helps the community as a whole with understanding fair market value of particular beers on the forum. Just my 2 cents though.

Not to pick on you personally, but please enlighten me on how *exactly* opening up comments would encourage the trading of more beers. You can post just like everyone else...right???

In reality it would increase *trolling*, *regional hype*, *people protecting value of their beers*, etc, etc......the same crap that took place when comments were allowed.

Since we allowed peeps to post trades without enforcing how they trade *their own beers*....why should others dictate if their trade is fair or not with comments????

Why not worry about your own beer trades??

If you feel that inclined to help...send a message to OP....pretty simple in my book.

People love trolling behind a key board...and seeing how it was before with replies isn't going to change in today's world.

Whales is the new game....which has * nothing* to do with whether replies are enabled or disabled. You can trade whatever beers you have in your possession....comments have no effect on that.

IMO....people that want comments...want entertainment. The threads where people get bashed in for ridiculous trade offers.

Why not just ignore it? Crickets speak for themselves.

Just my 2 cents as an avid trader & moderator

I haven't traded for many months (started homebrewing as an alternative to trades), but sounds like a reasonable approach to enable replies again from what I've read from others suggestions.

I wasn't here when it was available, so I don't miss it. That being said if you open it back up it would help engage others easier. Plus you may run into an instance where others can trade on the same post because they may be ISO:FT the same thing. This could cut down on the number of post.

Simply by more transparency on what things are trading for and what other more seasoned traders think about an asked proposal. For someone like me I'm daunted by the iso:ft forums and I wish it were easier for more lower level traders to participate. Just my 2 cents as someone who views beer as a thing to be drank, not a currency. Tbh I'll hardly be affected either. Consider that all of my thoughts on the matter.

Yes please. The inability to comment on trade posts, as well as a certain overzealous moderator, were pretty much the reasons for a lot of people losing interest here. Make BA great again!

Personally, I always encouraged commenting on my trade offers, most of the time it was legit feedback.

Do people's feelings really get that hurt over comments made on a freaking beer forum? You would think that this thread was asking if modern day slavery should be allowed with how much complaining and crying there is.

Comments help everyone, not just noobs, but even seasoned trading vets, especially when it comes to these new insta-whales that are seemingly popping up every other week (Magnus anyone?). The main reason why a lot of people have been using other places to to trade IS because commenting has been disabled.

    I say bring it back.

I don't think you guys did a bad job at all. It's tough monitoring traffic and even when it was getting bad it never got to the joke point of talkbeer. People got warned me included. It's easy to get sucked in to a valuation discussion but in the end I think things have been handled better here than the other sites.

I guess this is the way I've felt about it from the get go. If you get threadshit on just laugh it off. If you get it from every comment on your post then maybe you're doing it wrong...

Let's just say other sites do have more volume, don't know and don't much care. Wal-Mart does a helluva lot more volume, too. Doesn't mean that's where I want my (shopping/trading) experience

Seems to be the biggest argument for is understanding value. Very few people post completed's so that doesn't help very much. You could make each post a poll with predetermined answers (maybe 5-7) that would cover the spectrum of feedback to value. Fair, lopsided to OP, OP is over valuing their regional beer, etc.. It's a simple click one answer that fits best. Poster would get some dick clicks but the majority would rule, they would get the idea of where they stand. Could also make it easier to post completed's. Maybe a box you click in your post that auto creates a post in the completed forum. I know the list:list thing would make that difficult but maybe it would duplicate their original trade offer post in completed and they could type comments as to the beers that got it done. I know technically that would not be easier, but if the poster was on their own post all the time, it would be more convenient and probably get used more. Sometimes you can go a day or two with almost no completed posts. I don't know if almost nothing is getting done, or just not many are posting them.

With that said, I did like the comments. They put people in check before posting something ridiculous.

I like to do mainly IP trades but I know a lot of that gets done in FB groups which I am not a part of (not on FB). I wish there was a way to get more local trading activity on this sight.

I think the problem is that so many people feel that urge to make snarky comments & then claim they're, "just trying to help." if someone truly does want to give advice, it doesn't take much effort to send a BM. Which brings us back to the original thought, a snarky comment & that's all it is. I mean, come on. A spade is a spade. If someone just wants the ability to troll, devalue or over hype a beer, just own up to it. Don't be a wolf in sheep's clothing.
