To help find their beer, outside their brewery (they have their own tap room, where you can buy, drink, and fill growlers), use the following link:

    http://cartonbrewing.com/find-our-beer/

    More info from their website

Tasting room availability is posted on Facebook on Wednesday and Saturday before the sessions begin.

Special releases: When there are new cans we set up a table downstairs for efficiency, but outside of those first couple days they are upstairs in the tap room, which is staffed by really nice people.

    FAQ

To enhance the Carton brewery experience, the following local food recommendations have been suggested.

http://www.kunyasiam.com/ basicly across the street and BYO, very good thai that a growler of Dub rounds out nicely

http://www.thecoppercanyon.com/ serious level southwestern versions of jersy restaurant food the place we make Carton Canyon for

    https://www.beermenus.com/places/19405-gaslight
owned by the copper canyon guys dependably aspirational pub grub good craft list

http://www.ahwinebar.com/restaurant/ proper NJ bar with boat on tap

http://www.christinesitaliandining.com/ small place proper restaurant Italian BYOB

these are just the one's on our street and just the highlights at that there are also 2 pizza places, 2 delis a good bagel shop and a proper diner

there's also great Mexican place and a couple more pubs like chubby pickle in highlands. bahr's/mobys which we make wit whale for is classic shore seafood and 2 of the 4 places doing that right there

best bet is tell the tasting room servers what your'e in the mood for and how far you'r comfortable traveling and they will guide you well

How to get to Carton (The BOAT STORY)

    The boat from the city:
On weekdays the Atlantic Highlands stop on Seastreak ferry is 5 blocks straight down 1st Ave (.4 miles 8 minutes walk on Google maps)

On weekends there is a shuttle waiting at the Connors Highlands stop on the ferry that will run you over to the Atlantic Highlands stop (if you are nice to the driver they very well may drop you at Carton as you pass)

OR you can take the ferry to Connors Highlands, walk down Shore Drive to Kranky Cyclesand rent a bike (.3 miles-6minute walk on Google maps) and rent a bike. They have motorized and regular cruisers which can be peddled down the Henry Hudson bike path to Carton (2.9 miles 15 minute peddle according to Google maps) as well as out Sandy Hook for some beach time with stops at any of our local seafood shacks along the way.

So I'm headed to Carton on Saturday for the first time (actually hitting Kane first, then Carton, but I've been to Kane a few times). Two questions:

Are there any (non-brewery) bars worth stopping in on the way that might have a good selection local brews?

Is Uber pretty regularly available in the Carton and/or Kane area?

Gaslight has the best selection in the immediate (walking) area and decent food to boot.

I've never had an issue anywhere in Jersey with Uber, personally. 10 minute wait max maybe?

My personal bad news: now only two remaining cans in my fridge of All Orange Everything as I've just popped another of these gatdang magical brews. (Was lucky enough to get a case on release day with the wife.)

The personal (opinionated) great news: This beer is BETTER THAN EVER. Canned May 16, 2017, and this thang was sooooo good from week 1! I know we've all got those beers we love to age 'n' pop--this one is mine. Carton (and Other Half!), THANK YOU for being masters of your craft. I'm so in love with this beer this year. It might be impossible but I'm gonna try and save the last can for December... Carton is my favorite brewery--proud to be from NJ.

@NiceBeerCans The Henry Hudson bicycle path between Highlands and Atlantic Highlands is currently closed for construction, and will be for the next few months. While you could definitely still rent a bike and go down Route 36, it's a very large hill, and not scenic like the ride along the water. May want to update the main post.

Thanks for the info. I'll update the first post next month. Is there an anticipated completion date posted?

I was going to mention other spots for you to go eat/drink, but since you said Uber, I'll second @kthoag about Gaslight. I genuinely like it there and they do pretty well with their selections.

Uber is available at both locations. In fact, I Ubered from Kane Brewing to Porta last weekend.

Thanks for the info. Actually I will have a non-Uber ride from Kane to Carton so could potentially stop.

I don't generally like sours, an occasional 4oz of a Grim offering would be the extent of it. But man Dune Fruit was delish after mowing the lawn.....

Hit Keyport Fishery for clams and oysters with a Boat and youre set.

This year's Dune Fruit was great. They really dialed back the funkiness that a lot of people described as "vomit". I recently did a side-by-side with the original versus this year's and found that 2017 was more well-rounded. Lots of wheat, subtle pear, slight vanilla notes, and lacto sourness is well in balance. It's very much in line with the flavor profile of Monkey (as it should be, since it's the same base beer).

2015 had more overall pear flavor to it, but as it warmed, I definitely could pick up that slight "vomit" weirdness on the finish. To me, it reminded me of the time I tried to brew a kettle sour and messed up, creating a bunch of butyric acid in the mash. Not saying that's the case with the original Dune, but just something that reminded me of it.

Either way, I'm a big fan of Dune and all Carton sours. If we could only get a new run of Sakura....

FWIW I have only ever got whatever comes across as 'vomit' from MCTW. I definitely get that distinct vegetal thing from Dune, though my last can from the 2015 batch a month or two ago lost it and seemed like a super straightforward simple sour.

There is no brewery in NJ that does the awesome things you do Carton. So many styles: drinkable beers, crazy absurd flavored beers, BOAT, etc. Mixed 6 pack and the reasoning, I just wish you were closer : (

Doing this while simultaneously avoiding the hype train that is social media beer these days. One of a kind brewery.
