Forbidden Root (2018)

I was illustrating a point. She was under the assumption that NEIPAs go bad after 2 weeks. So I grabbed a 5wk old SB to prove a point. Still tasted great. I cut the can to show how little sediment there was.

 

This is a great idea that works perfectly into a project we're working on. Expect to see a keg or 2 of this in the coming weeks.

 

Poorly made NEIPAs go bad quickly.

 

It's fantastic. Can't recommend it enough. Junior, the owner, is as nice a guy you will ever meet.

Not true at all. He will sell anything to anyone. He just doesn't put the truck chasing beers on the shelf, and you have to ask for it. If you're a regular, he'll also give you a heads up. Shit, he might have kbs or black Note right now if you ask him.

I know for BCS, he always sells it a week or so after Black Friday because he was tired of the phone calls and truck chasers. But he always has a special release party

 

I used to love PR Food & Liquors years ago when he first started improving his craft beer selection ('09-'12 or so). As mentioned, Junior is a great guy. I stopped going when I moved a bit north, so haven't been in a few years. My only complaint with the place was that during the summer time, it would get 90+ degrees in that place, so I wouldn't buy there during that time (or buy things that were sitting on the shelf long). Not sure if he ever worked that out or not (I know its a Puerto Rican grocer and all, but wasn't conducive for IPAs sitting on a shelf).

 

In his defense, it's 90 in PR quite a bit of the yeah, so it was probably just for a more authentic atmosphere.

 

He was showing her that there isn't any actual crack in the beer....

 

Why is someone from Mikerphone under the assumption NEIPAs go bad after two weeks and should we be buying two week old Mikerphone?

 

She also drinks NEIPAs from all over the country, so I wouldn't necessarily draw that conclusion.
"Go bad" was paraphrasing "falling off" or "not impressive" after 2 weeks was probably a better summation.

 

I'm sitting at the bar right now having my first Radio Swan. This is stellar. Hopefully I can score some cans. Wish I wasn't on my lunch break or I'd sit for a few more.

 

Was too packed last night to have Radio Swan on tap, unfortunately. Look forward to swinging by tomorrow or Friday to compare to the cans. But the cans were as expected... stellar. Release was as smooth as can be and they were adequately staffed to handle it.

@BJP was the death metal a rare occurrence or is it to be expected in the future??? JW

 

I didn't notice death metal playing but I'm not sure what time that was at?
I think i heard Jesus Lizard playing overhead maybe?

 

I try to take over the music on busier nights...or any night that I'm here really. It's not rare. My taste is very diverse but I try to read the crowd. Coincidently, someone else played the DM last night

It's just another aspect of the pub that I'm pretty serious about. When we first opened I wanted to control all of the music. No top 40, no shitty pop, etc. I soon realized that it was way more work to keep it fresh. Now I have put it in the hands of a few capable people. If you hear shitty music here...please let me know. The last GM got the smackdown when I heard he was playing Chaka Khan.

 

I've always been very impressed with the music playing. Everything from Husker Du and the Pixies, to Fleet Foxes and The shins.

I know more than a few times, I've been at the bar, and I'll start singing along to a song that would not be played at many other places.

 

The music has always been great so I was just curious about last night. Not hating on it as I know some people enjoy it, just not my style and what I have come to expect.

If I could have one wish at this point for Forbidden Root, it would be to expand its food menu. The menu just doesn't do much for me.

 

Dang, I think the food menu is pretty good! My go to is the burger but yesterday I had the grain bowl and I even loved that. The cheese plate is pretty dope and matches the beer selection pretty well. My wife is pretty obsessed with the mussells and said they are better than the Corridor mussells (shots fired).
