Had a tasting between the two. Much prefer Founders RIS. Ten Fiddy had that slight metallic "can" taste. Both were fresh so I don't know if a little age on either one would make a difference. Founders had more depth and variety of flavors, especially as it warmed. Ten Fiddy had more bock qualities. What do you BA's think?

In before you imagined the metallic taste unless you were drinking it from the can.

But yes, FIS is much better than TenFIDY, and a better bargain as well. TenFIDY does have the slight advantage of being on shelves year-round at most places even if it's only brewed once per year.

I love Ten Fidy (and agree that you hallucinated the "can taste" unless you drank from the can, which you shouldn't have), but Founders Imperial Stout is better, no question.

Founders Imperial Stout is one of those stouts you automatically gotta throw in the cellar for a year or so, IMO. When fresh, I find it too hot and boozy, but it's an amazing stout. I think I'd give the edge to TenFIDY. I'd love to do a side by side.

Whoa! These are 2 GREAT beers. The way I decide on rating beers is if someone walked into my house with a 6-pack (4-pack or whatever) what would I be more excited to have. Founders RIS is a hard find around here and Ten Fidy is easily available so I gotta give the nod to Founders for that reason. Love'em both though.

Skeptical about the metallic taste comment, especially with the addition of the word can when mentioning it.

Founders puts out a great IS but I prefer TenFIDY in this comparison

founders beats OB on all accounts with the exception of Dales Pale Ale vs Founders Pale Ale.

I like Ten fidy better. Founders RIS is cloying but still very good.
    Both great beers

Pour the beer out of the can into a nice snifter and whammo! No more "metallic can taste"

I prefer Ten Fidy, to me, it's flavor is more balanced compared to FIS.

I give Ten Fidy my thumbs up over FIS. I was not thrilled with FIS the way I was with Ten Fidy. Love me some Fidy and as of the last three months Oskar Blues is available in Illinois!

Thanks for the replies. Yes.... I did pour the can into a pint glass and sipped on it over the course of about 25 minutes. As the beer warmed, the metallic taste seemed to dissipate. I drink Dale's Pale quite often, sometimes from the can, and I never get a metallic taste.

I've burned my way through cases of ten fidy without one metallic note in the bunch. Never had FIS (bastards won't distro into CO) but I have aged Ten Fidy at it smooths it out a lot. Last yearscans are tasting better than the fresh cans I picked up last week.

Hmm... maybe it's all in my head?? Good idea with the aging. I'm going to put away my two remaining cans and see what a years worth of aging does to the flavor profile.

Just curious, where did you find "fresh" Founders RIS? It isn't released until January unless something has changed. That means it is about 9 months old.

I personally prefer Founders RIS, but they are both amazing beers. Ten Fidy was a little too rough when I tried it, and it was about 10 months in the can.

I thought Ten Fidy was the strangest stout I'd ever tasted. Didn't taste like a stout. Didn't even really taste like beer. It had a weird sweet perfumey thing happening. I had it on tap at one of those zillion-tap places so all I can guess, based on how much my experience differs from every other review I read out there, is that they gave me the wrong beer. Otherwise you guys are nuts!
