PSA: Replying with "sent you a PM" is pointless

    Replying with "sent you a PM," or similar, was against the rules back when replies would bump threads. They were pointless then, but even more so now.

    Why? When you send someone a private conversation they get an onscreen alert and their Inbox is highlighted. And, if enabled, they'll get an email, too.

    Replying like this adds absolutely nothing to the thread, is only going to generate more alerts and probably annoy the other user, and make you look like a beer trading noob.

    On BA it is pointless because of the notifications, but I am thinking that this is carrying over from all the people trading on facebook? Very common there.

    Notification on there suck and there is a chance someone new sent you a message, and you won't see it or get notified. So it is ends up as a "look in your inbox." I know I appreciate it for that aspect. Also I think people use it to try to grab their spot in line, independent on when you actually send your message.

    So I hadn't really looked, but replies don't bump the thread anymore? That's awesome.

    I believe some people do it hoping to scare off others from sending the OP a message keeping the offers down

    Maybe it's a status personality thing...like commenting "First" on a post. Like if it comes down to it, you were first so you get to complete the trade?
