Just based on what I've heard and seen so far, I get the impression that becoming a member has a lot of "value" for more than just the local fan boy crowd.

Shrug. Like you, this all has no impact on my life. I plan to help out a good friend in the Chicago area by making periodic beer pick-up at dG (both he and his wife got in), but that's extent of my involvement.

That being said... For those who just love dG stuff, or for those who are ardent traders (or see some other reason to become a member), I wish them all nothing but the best with their membership.

wasn't blaming anyone, thanks for the assumption, was just interested in knowing how one goes about getting their info... and as I am sure you gathered from other's posts... I can not read their Facebook unless logged in.... now YOU know.

Thanks, that's good to know I do have IG and didn't realize they did....

Is there actually a Premier membership? Does anyone have any details on how it is different from the regular membership?

What I hear is 16 bottles, 2 magnums, private tour for you plus 3 and special glassware. For $470. Heard industry folks and weekly visitors to dG only were offered this.

Hey guys! This membership club drama has been quite an interesting read as a guy from out of town.

I will keep my outsiders opinion to myself though... *cough* (I would totally pay for it if a local brewery I loved did this) *cough*

Anyway, I have a general question - does De garde allow bottle sharing on site if we provide some for the staff as well? Me and a friend from NYC are visiting Portland next week and driving to De garde on Thursday the 3rd.

We heard through the grapevine that this was allowed and just wanted to check. We'll have some Other half, Hill farmstead, Russian river, Rare Barrel ect...

Would love to meet some local peeps as well!

I have seen many shares going down at de Garde, so I would say it is definitely allowed unless they changed their policy. Just ask first as they likely will need to open and pour the bottles. Probably wouldn't hurt to give them a call beforehand just to double check, but I hesitate to advise anyone to give them a call these days.

I'm fairly certain that it's not required that you share with the staff (I really hope not), but I'm sure it's appreciated. Just do it for the fun times though ... not because you want some special treatment from them. Not saying that is your intention ... seems like you just want to share good beers with good folks for no other reason. However, there seems to be an epidemic lately of people thinking they can bring in 'special' beer for the brewery/taproom staff and get some sort of special treatment or access to 'special' bottles that they may have stashed away.

Hope you and your friend have an awesome trip! It's difficult not to around here.

Thanks! Yeah it seems like their phone might be ringing off the hook right about now. Maybe i'll tray an email. As far as special bottles available for on site consumption there. Do you know if those are all De Garde bottles or do they offer things from different breweries? I also hear they have some special magnums?!?!

Assuming things haven't changed since the last time I was there (and at this point, who knows), everything Lockeness33 told you is correct. I honestly can't recall if they're even allowed to drink on the job, but I'm sure it won't hurt to offer.

In the past, there was a special bottle list for on site consumption only, and there were definitely some gems on the list. My recollection is that it was dG stuff only on the list, and I'm not sure if magnums were included on it or not (it wasn't something I was looking for, but my recollection is there weren't any magnums on the list). In the past they've sometimes sold magnums to go (which generally can also be consumed on site as well), but it's fairly uncommon. However, who knows. You might get lucky.

I thought it was clear it was a joke but whatever.

Well, to be fair it certainly didn't come off as a joke. Seems like this isn't the only forum that doesn't get your 'jokes' either.

No offense intended ... but it is a big pet peeve of mine when someone says something that is obviously not a joke that people don't necessarily like or agree with and then they respond with 'it was just a joke'.

Just own it ... really not a big deal.

Your recollection is the same as mine. Seems like they have the on-site consumption list available most if not all days they are open at this point. They change the list up, but it always has some fantastic options available. No magnums or bottles from other breweries in my experience (save for special events). They do occasionally do a few magnums to-go, but those typically go really fast and are few and far between to begin with so I wouldn't hold out hope.

Why the interest in magnums? I don't see the appeal, unless buying specifically for a share. Plenty of us have complained about 22s and 750s being too large.

Wut bro, you don't dome 4 Mags in a session? Week sauce Brotato.

Yeah, they are mostly for events/special occasions. Fun in their place. It can be hard finding the right place.

It's a unique experience and if you have the money and feel like being slightly ridiculous, then sometimes maybe you want to treat yourselves.

And if me and a couple buddies would like to drink a magnum and share the rest with some new friends we meet at De Garde or elsewhere then what's wrong with that?

    Nothing at all.

I think the only point he was making is that the sort of opportunity you're referring to doesn't come up all that often.

At least in the case of dG stuff, the abv. usually isn't too high, so it's not too big a chore to plow through a magnum with you and a few of your mates. Personally, I'm a big fan of variety, and so I'd rather just buy a bunch of different bombers and share them around with my friends (and new found friends). Once you see the bottle list at dG, I wouldn't be at all surprised if you feel the same way. Have fun!

Nothing wrong with it. Never heard any demand for magnums before, so genuinely curious.

Well it was a joke. Also my pet peeve when people think they have everything figured out but they don't. I thought saying "bad timing" and all of that would hint towards it, but I'll use more winky faces next time. Never claimed it was a good joke, or a funny joke. I'll drop it however cause I don't want to upset the amazing moderators !
