Agreed on Slurm Lord, for $11.99/6pk at my local Meijer it is definitely top tier for the style here in MI.

Agreed, but 12.99 here, but that tier is pretty slim for pickings, especially for whole state distribution....

I am really a fan of shorts hoppy beers. I love i got 5 on it and slurm. All the ipas have a nice bitterness in finish that you don't get with many ipas anymore or hoppy pales. I have a friend in Minnesota that i send every shorts release to and he loves them all especially slurm and he has access to toppling goliath and surly. So they must be doing something right. There is many of us up here in the upper peninsula that love shorts. I know store managers that take every shorts release and the rep for shorts, woj, is an awesome guy. My first ipa was huma.

I look forward to a pint of huma whenever I'm visiting my home state. I spent an amazing afternoon at the brewpub once, some four years ago, and I always imagined I'd go back. Why'd you have to make this all complicated now, scottashorts?!?!

lol, these digs about Shorts selling a minority interest to Lagunitas (Heineken) are a little ridiculous. No one here (other than Scott) knows what's Shorts financials look like, nor do we know their availability of cash? Hard money from investors is expensive and if an organization has already leveraged it's assets there are few options.

And yet some people criticizing Shorts will likely stand in line next Black Friday for Goose Island BCBS produced by a wholly owned AB InBev company. Hypocrisy is real.

It's not that complicated . The pub will still have the same character and the he same people will be there. Of course much has changed in 4 years at the pub and will again in the next few years. I get the concerns but even better reason to come see for yourself that things have not changed.

THANK YOU. This whole scene these days is a big joke. Or it's getting there, that's for sure.

I will still gladly buy Goose Island stouts and Founder's brews. Still taste the same to me (for the most part anyway). Actually, I never was a fan of Goose Island's regular stuff before they were bought out. Imagine that!

    You are welcome.

We differ in opinions in that I won't buy Goose Island because they are owned by AB InBev. Its well documented that AB InBev has used unfair practices to limit growth of their competition (and craft beer) through distributor agreements and outright ownership of distribution channels.

Here's why AB InBev is bad for craft http://www.businessinsider.com/r-ex...eking-to-curb-craft-beer-distribution-2015-10

Shorts should avoid using words like "ever", "never", and especially "forever"

I would love to see any of the critics in here be offered a 20% raise at their job to do the exact same thing and decline it so they aren't categorized as a sellout. I know the comparison isn't apples to apples, but it kind of is.

Side note, I thought Slurm Lord was really good, and I drink Transient and Old Nation NEipas all the time. I do think HHH has a point though about these beers becoming training wheel IPAs. Seeing people gauge their perception of a beer by the level of haze and lack of any bitterness is kind of weak. Two Hearted is still the perfect IPA imo.

Your spot on. Two hearted perfectly represents a IPA. That being said, there are many perfect what I would call "old school IPA's"

Didn't people use to judge a IPA simply by IBU numbers.... More bitter the better right? People like the taste of hops now, not just the bitterness. I see it not as training wheels, but as a better entry point than we had. Who wouldn't want to drink a Pompeii or DDH Sue for there first IPA/ Pale Ale instead of Stone IPA or Torpedo? Maybe i'm assuming to much.

i don't disagree, i wasn't trying to knock neipas as I am a frequent consumer of them, I was just talking about the small percentage of people that seem to only care about the look of the beer and will criticize it if there is any bitter aspects to it.

Its funny (and sad at the same time) to look at Untappd and see reviews saying a particular beer "wasn't hazy enough". Who cares how the beer actually tasted, how balanced it was, or if it had any off flavors?

Same thing about a reviews for any number of "wild/sour ales" that aren't "sour/tart" enough for the consumer. For those people, there are any number of crappy overly acidic lacto kettle sours that (A) should come with a supply of Tums, (B) remove paint, (C) melt tooth enamel, and (D) are sour like Warheads candy.

Sorry for going off-topic but I'll take my sours with a touch of balance as well, thank you.

Cracks me up as was mentioned before how many people are bust'in on shorts because they "sold out". They still have majority share of their company, charge of the day to day operations and how they run their business. What they gained is a financial backer that will ensure greater supply of their beer, enaure the growth of their company and provide job security for their employees. A ton of other craft breweries have sold larger shares (cigar city, founders, firestone walker) while many others have sold out completely (ballast point, goose island, wicked weed). As long as the quality of the beer doesn't decrease I will continue drinking plenty of Short's.

The next variety pack would be easier if it were six Spruce Pilsner and six Pineapple Pilsner. Then, I would not have to decide what to do with the beers I don't want.

Man, I really don't mean to come off like my standards are so high that Slurm Lord is somehow "beneath me". I'm glad I'm in the minority here as I'm really not enjoying it and I was just sharing my opinion. I still enjoy lot's of other beer from Short's so life will go on.
