    Hey everyone,
So recently my buddy and I have been trying to brew some small one gallon batches as opposed to our usual 5 gallon batches, the thing is we now have 2 batches with what seems like heavy protein build up that is not really similar to anything I had seen before.
What are your thoughts on something like this?

Pretty sure your beer is trying to grow a brain and develop sentience.

Looks like a bunch of hot and cold break in a fermenter with active fermentation.

How much yeast did you pitch?

For each it was 40mL of yeast slurry

Thats possible although I did 2 other batches that this didnt occur with using the exact same method, is it just a difference between the grain bills that would have caused these issues?

It's break material. More than typical, but that's what it is. Did you dump everything from the kettle into the fermenter?

Yeah we did... that makes sense, it just worried me because it was SOOO much break material and I had never really seen that before

Have these beers started fermenting? If this is pre-fermentation, I'd agree with the assessment that it's break material. If the beers have already started fermenting, you might have some unwanted visitors in your fermenters, as this appearance can and does happen to some wild captures. How do they smell?

You got good break. Might be from the decreased volume you are boiling and cooling. Especially if your 5 gallon batches were not full kettle boils.
Next time try to leave the break in the kettle when transferring. Otherwise it looks normal.
    Cheers.
