Traveling from San Diego (no, I'm not bringing any beer, sorry). Looking for good places to eat and drink. The only brewery I know to try to Bearded Iris. I'm sure there are other threads on this, but wanna see what the latest and greatest recommendations are. Thanks in advance.
Bring mexican food , not beer please. A legit carne asada burrito would be ideal . What kinda food recs you looking for?? Moved here from SD 3 years ago, miss the mexican food, beer is a ton better then when i got here though. Also Restaurants open here like breweries in sd , so there is always a new one thats the it restaurant for the week or month.
I liked ACME Feed & Seed, right at the end of the main drag. They've got good food, a great tap list, and great live bands. It all makes for a very entertaining meal. I also Liked The Pharmacy for burgers, and Mas Tacos Por Favor which is a pretty authentic little taco shack just across the street. And if you've never had it before you should probably try Nashville's Famous Prince's Hot Chicken. Don't be a hero, try the "MEDUIM" (as they're menu spells it) or the "HOT". "XHOT" or "XXXHOT" could land you in the hospital.
Geebus, I forgot about BBQ! Martin's was my favorite but I also liked Edley's ~ never made it to Peg Leg Porker which is very close to Jackalope.
They ain't got barbecue of any count in Nashville. Pizza, though, that's an entirely different story. Tailgate on Demonbreun in downtown Nashville has pizza almost as good as Hard Knox here in Knoxville, and an absurdly long list of craft beers on tap.
Where are you staying? I am from NJ but in Nashville almost once a month for work. Definitely hit up Bearded Iris and Southern Grist as mentioned above. New Heights brewing is close to downtown and also worth checking out. Nashville is known for Hot Fried Chicken, so def check out Hattie B's in the west end. If you're in Nashville on a Tuesday, the Hurry Back is a good bar in the west end. All canned beers and tacos are $2 and their draft selection is solid as well. My favorite pizza place in Nashville is Desano's right off Broadway. Butcher and Bee is a good place as well and then you cross the street over to Smith & Lentz brewing which is good not great, but convenient to get more beer after a meal. Oh and def check out Peg Leg Porker for BBQ...probably my fav BBQ place in Nashville
If you are coming in from San Diego you'll be very disappointed as Nashville (and southern) brewers are light years behind San Diego and the rest of the west coast. Moved here in 2012. Thankfully I am currently back in Southern California on business and currently enjoying a Pliny the Elder. Cheers
I respectfully disagree. While nashville might be far behind San Diego (and in terms of breweries what city isnt?) the south is doing pretty well for itself in terms of good breweries.
Been going to Nashville, Atlanta, and some other areas in the south for over a decade. The south is still far behind the west coast, but it has made lots of progress! My last trip was the first time I had an IPA worth a crap, due to Bearded Iris. On my prior trips I stopped ordering ipa's because they were all malt bombs. The south can make a good brown or porter though.
Just wanted to give props to those who contributed to this list. Just made my first trip to Nashville (currently in StL) and I relied heavily on this forum for suggestions. I didn't make it to every place on the list, but every place I went to was great! The only exception was Prince's... while the food was amazing (despite the odd menu options), the place was disgusting and the hour-long wait was ludicrous. I would never wait an hour on a Saturday of a short vacation for fried chicken... even THAT fried chicken. The only beer comments I would add would be that The Filling Station was an awesome place to drink and/or get crowlers/bottles, and they are right across the street from Smith and Lentz (great, not good, IMO) and right next to Edley's BBQ. Thanks again, had a blast and will be back!
