Hi all. I'm not a fan stouts and don't think I've bought one in well over a year now, and that means I'm missing out on all the beer I could be drinking. I really hate using beer as draino so I'm wondering if there is a slight chance at least that I might like KBS. Well over 100 bottles are just collecting dust in my local boozer and at $8,50 a pop I'm hesitant. I could pick up another 3F OG for that which I know I like and get change back. I've seen the reviews and I'm all for chocolate and coffee if that's what it's about and not hyped reviews started by some traders years ago. So, should I take the plunge and try a stout again?

One bottle, go for it, what do you have to lose.

I tend to not drink things that I don't like.

If you REALLY want to learn to like stouts, then I'd start with something less complex and lower in ABV than KBS.

I wouldn't waste your money on KBS if you don't enjoy a good stout. Get a Guinness Extra Stout or something and work your way up from there.

In that case, I'd stick to Narragansett. Or whatever cheap beer is available in Sweden. Baltika #6, Zywiec Porter should be readily available and pretty inexpensive.

You're in Sweden, try stouts from Omnipollo.

Then you probably won't like KBS. Have you tried Zywiec porter or maybe Baltika #6? They are a bit sweeter, less roasty than Extra Stout. Baltic Porters might be your thing.

Hmm, well, Noa Pecan Mudcake Stout is readily available now that I look and it's $2,50 cheaper. Maybe that's the route to go.

$8.50 is steep for Kbs, but it's worth a shot, it's one of my favorite Stouts. I wish I could get a shit ton more, but it's so hard to get here.

Spend the extra money when you know more about the style. The obvious reason is if you dislike it you might feel like you wasted the money. However, even if you like it, if you might not have the tasting experience to really understand why you like it, or why that expensive beer stands out [or not] against similar beers.

There's always the chance that you just don't like stouts. There's 2 or 3 styles that just don't work for me and I just accept it now

Perhaps you split it with someone. Might be a good way to sample a couple different stouts.or porters.

I'd try FBS first. A little cheaper and still a great stout.

Get a Founders Sumatra Mountain Brown. Cheap and very very good, if you don't like it your out nothing. By the way, feel free to send out those 100 KBS to us beer guys here, we will happily drink them up, LOL Cheers and hope you find one you enjoy, your missing out on some great beers.

Also you could give Ten Fidy a try, always around and not too pricey, one of my fav.

Absolutely get it. KBS was the first BA stout that hooked me. It's mellow and has nice coffee flavors.

You could always go after the American stouts such as Rogue's Chocolate Stout, Sierra Nevada Stout, Deschutes Obsidian, Sixpoint Diesel and Mikkeler Beer Hop Breakfast. Or perhaps find a slight maltier route in the English stouts such as Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate, Belhaven Scottish Stout and Orkney Dragonhead.

To start off with these big imperial stouts seems to be leading the cart before the horse.

I can see myself in your situation! I've never ever liked stouts or really dark beers. A couple weeks ago in the states I saw some KBS for 4 bucks a bottle but ended up getting some NEIPA's instead. Have been debating wether to give them another try but I always end up getting some other style, guess it's just not made for me.
