This new beer is a sour Kentucky Common, Kamen Knuddlen from Against the Grain.
This mahogany can pour is topped by 5 cm of soda-like foam that quickly dissipates to no foam, no lacing. Aroma is minimal, perhaps a plastic note.
The flavor is that of a kettle sour with a low bitterness. An oaky and toasted malt flavor persists. The body is light and a bit watery.
I like dark sours. This is light-bodied and drinkable, but not a favorite for me.

Warnsteiner pilsner. Not great but fairly good. It walks a line between the hops and malt without leaning too strongly in either direction which was its best quality[IMG]

Pours hazy light gold. Fluffy, wet, medium, white head that fades slowly with light lacing.

Smells citrus, light tropical, slightly juicy, pale malt, floral and hints of funk.

Tastes citrus peel, light orange, grassy, melon, fruit. Followed by pine, earthy and malt. Finish is dry with a bitter citrus peel linger. Medium body and creamy medium carbonation.

I did some experimenting and after a mouthful of strong black coffee I was able to get that hint of PB. Maybe some batches are better than others.

Did some work around the house this morning, then ran over to SoMe Brewing for my new beer. SoMe has been around for about four years, and they make some nice beers. The one I picked up is Tail Whip, an IPA with Galaxy and Citra hops. The ABV is 8%.

Tail Whip is a hazy orange color with a small white head and a smattering of lace.
Fruity aroma, mostly citrus, some tropical. Sweet malt.
Lots of fruit in the taste. In no particular order: grapefruit, orange, melon, pineapple, and passionfruit.
    Nicely bitter mouthfeel.
Good beer. Happy to drink it.

Good morning all. I am glad to be home from my beerventure in northern NY and Vermont. Today's choice is Lawson's Super Session 8. I purchased a case from a small country store in Vermont that looks like a converted school house. If it wasn't for GPS tracking we never would had found it. This was our second stop while following the Mad River delivery truck. Our first stop was the Warren General Store which has a liberal 1 case limit on "sip" and great breakfast sandwiches which were greatly appreciated after leaving Saranac Lake at 5 in the morning. So here it goes. Purchased in Vermont. Canned 9 days ago. Poured into a tulip glass from a 12 ounce can. Appears light orange with a generous foamy head and decent lacing. It smells wonderful. Better than most beers that I have encountered. It has that sweet piney floral fragrance that wants you to dive right in. The first sip has that delicious hoppy flavor that you expect from a Lawson's brew but seeing that it is a 4.8 abv session IPA it isn't overwhelming. It still has that sweet Vermont taste that surprisingly to me comes to the forefront on the back end. The mouth retention is very strong and delicious. The farther I get into the glass the more it tastes like a lighter session IPA. I am thinking that if I would had tried it after a Sip of Sunshine or a Heady Topper it would had really tasted on the lighter side. All in all a very good session beer. I am glad I purchased a case. 4 - 4.25 - 3.75 - 3.75 - 4. If you ever want a great beerventure give Vermont a try. It could not be any more beautiful. The driving is easy including dirt roads over mountains and one lane covered bridges. The scenery is fantastic and with some research and planning some of the best beer in the world is fairly easy to acquire.

It's interesting to think about a beer you're drinking now retrospectively. I wish I would have known to save this one for the fall as it I feel I may evaluate it differently then vs on a hot summer day. Overall it's not bad and English Strong Ale is not a style I've spent a lot of time with. The head is interesting as it looked fizzy while I poured it but unlike most fizzy heads lingered for a while. Some pleasant toffee/bread/cherry notes come out on the nose, with the cherry replaced by plum on the palate. It's fairly full-bodied at 8.5%abv though alcohol isn't present. Compared to others I've had in the style it's missing even mild hops and fairly sweet. This is my only bottle but I would love to see what direction it heads with a year or two of age. At the end of the day my score ended up 3.77 rDev -2.3%
I've got a couple half-growlers of other new beers to try so I'll likely be back a bit later. Cheers!

Found this in my cellar when I was looking though boxes. I believe @larryi86 sent this one to me. Evolution Nouveau pours a very dark amber color with a fizzy dirty white head. Tart cherries, sour apple, vanilla, malt and oak. Starts off semi sweet then blasts with tart cherries and sour plums. I can taste the vanilla and oak within the malty liquid. Finishes with a lingering tart sourness. Not sour, but a nice sweet and very tart combination. A real treat to quaff. Carbonation gives the beer a fizzy, bubbly quality. Drinkable, and refreshing. Reminds me of New Glarus Enigma.

At The Crooked Rooster Brewpub in Watkins Glen NY. This is a nice place, 11 beers on tap I'm having the Pale Ale. Good brew, amber with a thick white head, mild citrus aroma, a nice biscuit flavor dry finish. I think I'll have to get here again on this trip. There are a few beer here I want to try but don't have the time to do so now.

Howdy BA and thanks to @cjgiant for hosting this week's NBS! Missed out on last week's thread, but I'm back this Sunday with a few new entries. No real common thread throughout, but I will tell you that my next will be a Czech pilsner and, after that, I'll be enjoying a new fruited sour collaborative effort featuring one of the US' most well-liked sour-focused breweries!

This first entry is called Nordic Lean, and it's a "purple IPA" clocking in at 7.4%. It is a collaboration itself, namely between the insane mind of Brian Strumke, head of Stillwater, and the Norwegians at Lervig Aktiebryggeriet in Stavanger. It was bottled over yonder in Scandinavia, and features both juice and puree from blueberries, blackberries and blackcurrants, with an dose of lactose added as well. Weird beer is fun beer!

Welp... yup, that's definitely purple! It's very opaque, though, so it takes on a milkier, smoothie-like appearance and features a long-lasting cap of off-pink head held up by striking streams of carbonation rising upwards in steady streams. Pretty great appearance here!

The nose is also smoothie-like with the stemmy and grassy blueberry coming out most prominently. The blackberry and blackcurrants lend a little bit of a jammy note, and I also get some light piney hops, slight citrus peel and a strange, plastic-y yeast element as well. Hoping this follows through on the tongue at least a bit, because this isn't super convincing off the bat.

Flavor is almost abrasively bitter and tart with bracing acidity from the berries added. Not much in the realm of malt backbone here, and the beer feels a little overcarbonated as well. I think the lactose was probably added as an attempt to smooth out the feel here, but it does very little to tame the fruit here. The blackcurrant aspects are overwhelmingly strong on the tongue, leading this to feel really unbalanced. Fruit IPAs can be really good, but I think this is moving a little too far into the realm of regular-ol' fruit beer at this point as it doesn't feel like an IPA base. Even though it's plenty bitter, the hops feel anonymous and the carbonation seems a bit Brett influenced, perhaps. The fact that it's so dry in the finish even in spite of the lactose lends a bit of credence to this theory, as well. Not a successful experiment here, unfortunately.

Well then... back outside to grill! Oh, yeah... right. I finally just bought (well, jointly-purchased with my roommate) a gas grill and gave it a test run with some smoked bratwurst about a half hour ago. Gonna throw on some chicken marinated with brown sugar bourbon marinade, Kentucky bourbon barbecue sauce and Knob Creek Single Barrel bourbon pretty soon! If you're not going all in, you're not doing it right! You can bet you'll see pictures if it comes out good.

Good afternoon all thanks @cjgiant for getting us going. The first beer of the day is from Tired Hands Shambolic, a dry hopped spelt saison. I picked this up 2 weeks ago at the brewery no bottle date and for a pretty decent price if I recall, I think it was about $8. I really enjoyed the flavors which were better balanced than the aroma to me which was more of just a normal saison, the flavor added another level I thought. My only regret is that I did not get another bottle or two!!! Cheers!!

Appearance 3.75 - Pour cloudy straw color with thin white cap the dissipates rather quickly to a thin ring around the glass.

Aroma 4 - Light peach, some lemon/lime, a bit of barnyard funk/wet hay. Seems to be a light tart aroma but the funk overpowers it just a bit, mild spiciness along with some light bubblegum.

Taste 4.25 - A very nice combination of jaw tightening tartness and barnyard funk. The taste is very similar to the aroma, in comparison the lemon/lime tartness along with the slight fruitiness hit me first and leads way to the wet hay, mild funk that was more subdued in the flavor. The tart/funk flavors are much more balanced in the taste and it works well.

Feel 4 - Light bodied prickly carbonation with just a hint of dryness on the end.

Overall 4.09 - I thought this was a well done Saison, fairly complex in the taste department and well balanced.

Easy Sunday. Made some fresh baked Onion Soup for lunch swimming in cheese , and I'm making a scallop and shrimp Newburgh for dinner, with steamed Asparagus with hollandiase sauce.

So the beer is a SweetWater Triple Tail Tropical IPA. It is very light very fruity on the nose, the taste really follows. Hazy too, 5.5 abv. . The body is thin, medium bitter, but the finish is fairly weak, needs a bit more malt to carry the hops. If I didn't know better I'd call this a session IPA because of the weak finish. It's an ok beer , the front end is way better than the backend.

Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Beauty day here, which I have largely spent inside practicing drums, trying to keep up with the now forty-two songs playlist for the acoustic quartet. Patato Valdes said you have to keep the drums happy by playing them often and letting the oils of hand skin keep the heads supple and responsive. I have some happy drums right now.

And drinking this delicious beer I am refreshed and happy too. No. 3 in the Rushing Duck Research and Development series, it is all Galaxy, and the best showcase for this hop I have tasted. Another home run from the good folks at Rushing Duck.

Pours a murky grapefruit juice color with a righteous dollop of off white foam that lingers for a few minutes. It falls to a lasting cap and leaves impressive lacicles on the glass.

Full aroma featuring sweet grapefruit, grapefruit pith, floral, yeasty tart and doughy sweet, with slightest hint of overripe peach.

Full taste that features bright representations of all the flavors in the aroma, balanced perfectly. Finish is all about citrus pith and light amount of piney bitter. Delicious.

Highly viscous, low carb., very resinous, soft on palate, refreshing, with a killer finish that is just sweet enough.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Greetings from the southern shore NBS faithful! It's been over a week of sunny skies and comfortable temperatures which means taking advantage of summer at break neck speed. Visited an old friend yesterday and spent the day at his lake house reminiscing, eating and drinking. A great day was made greater by a quick stop at a regional brewery beforehand. Which brings us to the reason why we're here.

I hit up Windmill Brewing in Dyer IN yesterday for their second anniversary and subsequent release of Peaches & Memes milkshake style IPA with peaches. A pint can with no date stamp, 7% abv. and 30 IBU's listed on the label. Giving this colorful can a pour in my newly purchased Windmill stemmed glass for the occasion.

It pours a cloudy radiant yellow orange juice color producing a small finger of soapy white foam. It quickly settles to form a thin ring leaving some sparse lacing behind. The smell is a cornucopia of fresh cut fruit including passion fruit, mango, pineapple, clementines and lastly a nice fresh whiff of peaches. Taste is orange-pineapple juice forward along with mangoes and a little floral. The peaches finally appear in the finish tasting fresh and provide a complementary smoothness to the slightly acidic fruit profile up front. The feel is mildly acidic like orange juice to start, but quickly smooths out to a creamy finish.

This brewery has been open for two years and I'm a relative newcomer to their products. Their NE style IPA's have grabbed my attention and continue to improve with each release. This is their best in my opinion and has me forgetting about trips to Transient during road construction season. Yeah it's that good! My score is 4.6 and I had the honor of being the first review.

I'm hoping for another review later, but a trip to my bro's for a couple is next. He's off to the Pacific NW for a week and I need to convince him to smuggle some beer home. Cheers gang, here's the official scorecard......
