Genesee Grüngeist Pale Ale reads like an intriguing beer: “This Pale Ale features the new German hop, Grüngeist. Unique hop notes of lemon and passion fruit create an exceptionally flavorful yet clean beer.” This is the first time I have heard of Grüngeist hops. Maria (@utopiajane) seems to follow Genesee closely. Maybe she has tried this beer? Cheers!
Not yet. They had the orange cream ale and the helles bock on the shelf today. I did however find the bigger sides oktoberfest! Cheers. I will buy this beer and report back .
Maria, do you have any insight as to why there was no Genesee German Pilsner this year? Did it not sell well last year? Cheers!
No. Wegman's changed the way they organize the beer and many beers lost out on placement when they added new selections. So ommegang moved into the united states for the first time and a lot of palate space was given to bud , and empire brewing. There's a big end cap of bud miller coors, literally and that's a good retail idea. * last time I was at the store I had to open a box before I bought the beer. The fellow says at the checkout you know this is open? I says you know there's a date inside the case? ** one more - sierra nevada had only a few sixers of the oktoberfest on the shelf. No case.
I only seem to see the beer , light and ice and cream Wish these others were available in my area Enjoy
Nice! I'm always eager to try new German hop varietals. Huell Melon, Mandarina Bavaria, Loral, and Saphir have been some of my favorites lately. I still need to try Hallertau Blanc, though.
Glad to see Genesee is getting on the bandwagon. I liked their Oktoberfest but didn't think it was great though. Still, for the price point it was a welcome change as my cheap back-up beer. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the Grüngeist (green ghost); and I'm glad Germany is getting on the bandwagon as well. Hopefully I'll find some interesting stuff on my upcoming trip.
Loral is from the breeding programs in the US, not German, but it does have a little noble character. Green ghost, I like the name.
I looked up this Hop, and the name is trademarked by Hop Head Farms in Hickory Corners MI. They have some good ties with German Hop farmers, and were the importers of the new German hops early on. I don't know what this is called in Germany.
