Curious if anyone has heard about this beer. Took first place at GABF for:

    Category: 19 American-Style Sour Ale, 34 Entries
Gold: Barrel Select - Gold, Captain Lawrence Brewing Co., Elmsford, NY
Silver: Red Poppy, The Lost Abbey, San Marcos, CA
Bronze: Fitger’s Framboise, Fitger’s Brewhouse, Duluth, MN

if it beat out Red Poppy, I'd LOVE to check it out. No news anywhere on the Captain's site or anywhere else that a quick google search shows. Anyone know anything about this?

On the look out for the next silent release.
BSB was brought to EBF before it was released. Hoping Gold will be coming soon.

I also noticed that they had won and quickly went to their site to see if anything was coming up. Anyone try emailing over there? They were forthcoming with info about the last two releases so I'd imagine they'd approach this the same way.

Not yet, figured I'd wait it out a bit longer and see what happens

I was up at Captain Lawrence on Oct 5th and it was listed on the chalkboard for bottles to go, but it was crossed out. I believe it was listed at $15/bottle.

Asked the guy behind the bar about it and he said it was over carbonated and they were holding on to it for a few more weeks to see if it settled down. He said in its current state it was an instant gusher.

I asked for a ballpark time as to when it'll be released he said about a month. Take that as you will, he was just a kid working behind the bar, but it's info nonetheless

judging from the gold medal i'd say whatever issues it had are either gone or the crew was armed with pitchers when they poured this for judging. i'd be willing to wait after the 6 or so gushers i opened from 2010 golden delicious. i kept forgetting and then i'd open another and EXPLOSION!!!

They also won a silver for barrel select - fo/bb. I would conjecture, maybe incorrectly, French Oak / Bourbon Barrel? Anyone care to add additional conjectures?

French Oak/Brett Brown. It is the markings they put on Barrel Select batch #1

That doesnt make much sense unless they are opening the bottles to release pressure and then re-sealing them. Once a beer is bottled, if its over-carbed there is no "settling down."

GABF placing or not, I was sold at the words barrel select.

Just telling you what the guy told me. Like I said he was working the retail shop so maybe he's not up on what's going on in the brewery itself.
