    It's a beautiful day in Saratoga! Post time 1:00pm
    Drinking Heineken and eating Manhattan Clam Chowder track-side.
    I probably drink ten of these each year, nine at the track.

    Cheers you all! Today I am drinking sierra nevadas oktoberfest some more. Light helles nose . No hop scents at first. restrained floral and pepper. It's a more assertive hop in the middle with bitterness but over the time I am drinking it I think either it has calmed down or I have. I would not call it toasty like a darker colored beer might be but it's a festbier. I have a collaboration from another brewer.

    I would put the beers I have together like this so far. saranac helles, uinta fest helles, sierra nevada/miltenberger also a festbier. saranacs oktoberfest and genesees oktoberfest together although sarancs is a little sweeter this year. Americans think of the marzen as orange or darker. The collaboration I just bought is with otter creek and a craft german brewer so avante garde! And cheers! It's going to be a two beer wednesday =)

    With the 'serious' matters of the day behind me, it's time for a beer. I found this over the weekend while rummaging through the beer fridge looking for bottles to purge. With no date, I haven't a clue to it's age? It's been 2-3 years since I last purchased one, so that's as close a guess I can muster. Smooth as silk bourbon, char, dark fruit, chocolate and oak. There's still some heat going down. Whatever the year, it aged very gracefully. Cheers gang......

    Trying to assemble a DIY version of a burrito bowl like from Chipotle Mexican Grill for dinner tonight. Still have some time and probably another beer. Chicken in marinade etc. Won’t bother you with the details. This isn’t burrito advocate after all :slight_smile:

    Score 3.42
    look: 3.5 | aroma: 3.25 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.25 | overall: 3.5

    Attractive golden red color with cream tone cap and lacing.

    Aroma of bready malt with a touch of something floral hoppy in the background.

    Taste is malt forward in a caramely, toasty, malty way with some overriding hop bitterness that goes just far enough to sorta match the malt. More than average carbonation gives it all a bit of bite. Finish is clean with some hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

    Texture is light medium with a bit more carbonation than necessary to balance.

    Bit of a let down this one. A fair amount of rich maltiness that stops at the average line and can't seem to advance the ball further. Enough hop bitterness to notice but the malt and hops don't meld, rather are parallel runners whose path's don't seem to cross. A simple concoction that appears to be one of these fill in the slot lineup brews that wears the jersey but doesn't advance the team.
