I recently put up a FT that included '09 BCBS. I was flooded with BMs asking if it was the bomber or the 12 oz from '09. Many people said they were not interested in anything other than the bomber version.

My question is why is the bomber seen as so much more "valuable" than the 12oz when the same beer is inside? Obviously there is 10 more oz in the bomber, but personally I'd rather have 2 12oz than 1 bomber. Is there a reason the bomber version is so highly sought after?

That was the only vintage in the 22oz format which might play into it. Some people also say that beers in larger formats age better in part due to the lower surface area in contact with are (I have no input on this one here, just saying what I have heard/read).

I think people prefer the larger size for sharing, cellaring, and ballin out of control. Same reason people seek out lambic 750s rather than 375s.

I would definitely prefer 2 12oz bottles to a bomber especially for beer over 10% abv. In fact i wish BCS came in 7 oz bottles. Perhaps people were checking if it was 1 12oz bottle (as opposed to 2) or 1 bomber?

Little known fact........ the 22oz bombers of 2009 BCBS are from Pappy Barrels. Totally True story.

As of a couple moths ago, the only benefits of the 22oz were that they look cooler and are more to drink. I personally like having more of it to drink. I didn't find a flavor difference.

At 15% ABV I'd rather have 2 12 oz bottles.

This year is the first year that its been 15%. It was 14.5% last year and 13% before that.

Maybe it is time to post a FT for the bomber that I still have from '09. Didn't realize the demand.

The bomber thing is funny. A couple years ago when I started trading I received multiple 09 bombers with out hassle. Obviously most are gone but it was very easy to get not to long ago.

They sat on shelves in MA right up to the increase in demand for BCBS (early 2011?). People also may have thought that they would continue producing the bombers since the variants were coming out like that too.

I traded for two bombers not knowing they're bout to become. Rar. I'm definitely looking forward to drinking mine. I traded Beatification batch for them. 2:2. Simple as that for your simple math-kid cudi

I haven't tried the '09 12oz in a while but it was way down in my list of vintages. Way prefered the bomber. From what I've had I ranked them:
'08 (think this one is slightly past peak, now - about a year back it was unbelievably good)
    Rare
    Vanilla
    '11
    '09 Bomber
    '12
    '09
    '10
    Bramble
I'm lucky to still have some bombers I'm sitting on - at this point it would take something pretty special to get me to part with one.

Same thing happened to me, and it was probably a year after those came out. I remember being on the phone with someone and him saying "yeah, they're here, how many do you want?"
