Wasesda 7, a collaboration between Brasserie de la Senne and Cantillon. Saison + Lambic. Amazing!

The Bruery - White Chocolate Wheatwine (Bourbon Barrel Aged, on Cocoa nibs and Vanilla beans)

    Good Morning fellow BAs,

I confess that I started drinking this late last night but I continued to do so until a few moments ago early this morning. This beer signifies a number of milestones for me. 1) It's my first ever wheatwine. 2) By having my first wheatwine, I'm finally completing the circle, having sampled every single style that there is (at least as far as BA is concerned): All 104 of them (at least until NEIPA is introduced as an official style), which took considerable effort on my side. Roggenbier, Unblended Lambic and Kvass were by far the hardest to find. 3) Finally, this is by far the most expensive beer I've ever had ($32 for a bomber).

Tasting notes: It pours dark amber with an impressively large head for a beer of this ABV (15.1%). However, the head only lasts for a minute or two, leaving no noticeable lacing behind. The aroma is primarily of bourbon, with hints of chocolate, toffee, molasses and some dark fruit. The taste is fairly sweet, and in many ways it reflects the nose, with bourbon notes, chocolate and lots of malty sweetness. I would not have guessed that there is wheat in the grist bill of this ale as there are none of the stereotypical wheat aromas/flavors that I can detect. Not much in terms of carbonation and a very chewable mouthfeel. This is one crazy complex beer. I normally don't enjoy non-stout bourbon-barrel aged beers but this one is up there with the best BBA stouts I've had. This is not surprising given that this is a beer as rich, viscous, complex and intense as any stout out there.

Cheers everyone! Have a great weekend!

How was that? I passed on it at the brewery in favor of other options.

And please keep posting! Living vicariously thru the thread this morning.

Man, I loved this! I also love rhubarb, so the slight bitterness that comes with it is great. So smooth, not too sour. Cheers!

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Brewing up an Irish red ale kit this morning from Morebeer. I do have a full all grain setup, but I did not feel like going through my normal water chemistry calculations and everything. Also saving me more hours by going extract. Weird thing is they gave me too much dark grains, so I had to measure them out. Also too much bittering hops for the style. Will bump those down to proper levels. I entered it into Brewtoad just because that is my main brewing log, and that's how I know. Never used Nottingham before, but there is a first time for everything.

    Beers this morning:

Glad to have these in the state now. Fantastic IPA! Aromas and flavors of huge mango, peach, apricot, pineapple, papaya, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, and pine hops; with moderate toasted biscuit, light caramel malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; balanced bready/grainy creaminess and sticky/resin/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin dryness, touch of hop astringency. Very smooth. Really unique hop, but works great in an IPA. Lots of apricot. I reviewed this 3 years ago in a bomber. Just as awesome as I remember.

Haven't had this in a number of years. Amazing dubbel! Flavors of big raisin, plum, fig, date, apricot, apple, orange peel, peppercorn, clove, anise, and light banana yeast; with balanced caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, nutty, and toasted biscuit malts; with herbal/grassy hops and yeast earthiness. Moderate peppery yeast spiciness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, medium bodied and moderately crisp. Balanced bready/grainy creaminess and yeast/spice stickiness in the mouthfeel. Increasingly drying carbonation and spicy yeast. Extremely drinkable. Really glad I grabbed a 4 pack this week, this is one of the best American made dubbels out there. I need to buy Ommegang more often.

Always world class for me. Glad we got 4 packs again this year, last year there were none(was drinking 2015 shelf sitters all season). Aromas and flavors of huge pumpkin, seeds, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, gingerbread, toasted pie crust, caramel, brown sugar, and light herbal hops. Light-moderate herbal hop/spice bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied; balanced bready/grainy creaminess and hop/spice stickiness in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing bitter/spicy dryness, never astringent. Super drinkable. This feels more balanced fresh than I remember. I used prefer it with some age to balance out the spices; but it seems to be good to go right now. I got 2 4 packs last weekend. Won't be the only ones I buy this year!

Mind blowing stuff! Flavors of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, fudge brownie, vanilla, cinnamon, chili pepper, smoke, toasted dark bread, and light dark fruit/char; with some herbal spice earthiness as well. Bittersweet balanced finish; very full body, with an amazing creamy/silky mouthfeel; with light touches of sticky/chalky roast and slickness. Minimal dryness, but zero cloying sweetness. Minimal pepper heat, but really great flavor presence. Very rich/decadent, with spot on balance of spices. This has a thicker/fuller body and better mouthfeel than regular Bomb!, which makes this just a bit better overall for me; but I always love both. Hope they bring it back again next year. Have not seen in around recently. Still plenty of Pe-Kan and Paradise around though; will get more of those soon.
