I really don't understand incentiving/rewarding people to line up outside your establishment in the wee hours of the morning, but I digress

What's bad about rewarding people that line up early?

It's in the best interest of the business to sell inventory as quickly as possible. In this case it sounds like a matter of hours for the entire batch to be sold, and More will recover all cost associated with this batch + profit. It also sets the stage for all near future More stout releases to sell out quick (assuming the beers today are good or better)

Agreed, obviously they can run the business as they see fit but it only ensures people lining up earlier and earlier for each subsequent release. The ironic thing is that a good number of the people who fall in the 2pp group have no intention of drinking the 2nd bottle anyway, let's be honest. "I've been here since 7am. I 'm entitled to two bottles so I can trade one of them. Hell, if I can get it on draft and get that crucial tick I'll trade both of the bottles...but yeah, did I mention I've been here since 7am? Those late comers are not trying hard enough."

That's pretty sad if that's the case.

Just drove by, and said "fuck this, what am I doing", and left. I'm getting too old for this.

No, it's in the best interest of a business to get as much of its inventory in as many peoples' hands that came to that business as possible, rather than prioritizing people who have nothing better to do on a Saturday morning for 6 hours than stand in line for a bottle of beer and then having to tell a lot of people in line that they're shit out of luck because they prioritized others. The people turned away will more than likely be really pissed and may elect to never return. That's bad business.

Pretty much what I say whenever there's a new release...my time is becoming more valuable then the newest brew

If that's the true intention why not make it 6pp?

Do you see that happening to the point where it will affect them greatly? I get where you are coming from, but making sales is the goal. Any which way you do it, is up to you.

But they're going to sell out. That's indisputable. The notion of having to sell it as quickly as possible when there are still people in line to buy the beer makes no business sense. So why would they risk alienating people already in line to sell the bottles 30 minutes or an hour quicker?

Seems to me this decision is about building hype outside of chicagoland & trying to ensure they are the next brewery to have a rep for lining up early.

Can you taste the hype brahs??

I love this discussion on allotments, lining up and hype every time there's a big release. Already looking forward to next time we discuss this all over again.

That's a good question... there may be some supply/demand answer, but I don't have it.
