Toppling goliath zeelander. My first beer with Nelson sauvin as only hop do of course had to have it in the glass named after it. First pour was in a regular ipa glass and i thought it smelled different almost oaky and wine and then i read the bottle said nelson sauvin so then i switched glasses and read about the hop. This is definitely a unique hop i feel.

Pours hazy, orangeish yellow. Thick, foamy, tall white head that Fades slowly to a long lasting rocky head with good lacing.

Smells citrus, tropical, fruity, mango, grapefruit, light wine and hints of oak.

Tastes orange, mango, pineapple, citrus peel, Tropical, peppery, light bready malt and light grapefruit. Finish is dry with citrus peel and pepper. Medium body and creamy medium carbonation.

Thanks for your post. I noticed the brewery doesn't yet have many reviews/ratings for any of their beers. This beer doesn't appear to be in the system. If you have the time, please consider adding it with a review so others that use this site can find out how good a brewery they are by learning from your experience. Cheers!

Good morning NBS gang. I recently promised @cjgiant that once things calmed down a little on my end that I would try to post more, including reviews. This morning's new (variant) beer is Evil Twin's "Aun Mas A Jesus", bottled at Cervesa del MONTESENY, Sant Miguel de Balenya, Barcelona, Spain. I've had a number of these blasphemous beers, and I'm excited to drink this morning's newbie to me:

The pour is motor oil black; thin cinnamon brown foam dissipates quickly, leaving a thin tan ring and a small oil slick of a cap; no clarity under quick cap; fleeting spotty lacing at best; thin, incomplete ring does not last; moderate legs. 3.25

Roast malt, toasted/charred bread nose. 3.50

Roasted coffee; bittersweet dark chocolate; no hint of alcohol; dull bitter roast finish. 3.75

Almost full, somewhat dense feel; a dry bitterness envelopes the tongue - dry and wooden like a popsicle stick devoid of popsicle that has dallied in the mouth long past it's intended purpose. 3.5

Overall, more bitter roast than cocoa. There is a char/roasted grain linger that is not for me. The appearance was to say the least, underwhelming. I wish the flavor had more of something else, be it cocoa or coffee or anything else other than bitter roast. 3.5

This Spanish bottled brew, and the books, are part of my current study to bone up on my admittedly poor language skills. Mrs. Z is feeling like her old self again, so we will head out on another trip next month. More to come. Enjoy your Sunday, and cheers!

Glad the situation has arisen to enable you to post. Cheers, my friend!

It varies depending on device used as to where the "Add a Beer" link is on the brewery's BA page - either on the right sidebar or at bottom of page. From there, two steps of information about the beer and done.

I think you used to have met a certain threshold (of ratings or something) that enabled this feature, but I'm not sure if that's still the case. Thanks for trying!

Finally, I have found it. A craft brewer who knows how to brew a pedestrian adjunct style without pretensiously over-hopping it.

The beer is ugly, I'll give you that. I cannot even describe the color, and it's so hazy and opaque that it adds to The unattractive red. The head disappears before I can even see what color it is, but according to the photo it's almost white. No lacing. But then ....

I inhale. Lime juice immediately jumps up my nostrils followed by a dry, sun-bleached pinch of sea salt. This beer is as advertised.

So I sip it with intrigue. It does have a nice sweet corn base, as described by the brewer. The lime citrus and sea salt coat it masterfully. There is a certain tangy aftertaste either through the hops or perhaps all of the citrus.

My overall impression is that I love this. It has craft ingenuity all over it while at the same time feeling like a pedestrian Mexican lager that you can drink from the can. As usual, I rated it much higher than this community did. I haven't had a beer from Epic that I haven't loved. It's time to slot them in my top 3 favorite brewers.

It's so funny -- I avoided buying this beer for weeks and weeks because I assumed it would be another craft hop bomb. Every craft adjunct lager (oxymoron?) that I've had has been terrible. Thankfully Epic know how to do it in my unpopular opinion.

    Cheers.

    Hey what's going on?!

Hope everyone is doing well, I've been doing alright. I was limiting myself a little bit to some reviewing as I got a wicked head cold some time ago. Crazy amount of congestion.. who knew the human body could hold that much snot.. I mean seriously... ?

    Ya ok I went there.

    So anyway...

Had a great day and did a bit of slumming around the city on my own, which reminded me of my much younger days in DC. Had much fun as DC Beer week seems to be rolling along and there are many goodies to be had. Found some interesting things on the shelf here and there, but also found myself in some odd places as well such as being able to drop by Aslin a few times strangely. Was there last Friday about 2 hours and 20 minutes after they opened and they kicked Masters of Karate within an hour. Pretty crazy I say!

With that, there have been many new goodies to review. So let's just get right to it.

What's new for our hero today?

    Jorts | Aslin Beer Company

[IMG]Aslin Beer Co. - Jorts IPA by imbibehour, on Flickr

    ----------------

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Canned August 22nd 2017.

Dull and thick opaque looking body. Nearly turbid, but the odd faint even white carbonation bubble makes an appearance. Good solid three finger head, offf white with a minor amount of soapy to creamy looking top. Settles flat to about a finger and a half.

Real nice hop aroma. Subtle amounts of sweet floral touches with contrasting classic tropical hop fruit qualities. Hints pineapple and mango, maybe a touch of spice in there as well perhaps. Mouthwatering sensations as well.

Palate brings some classic and new age hop delivery. Excellent creamy mouthfeel almost silky to an extent. Supportive mid palate filled with hinting pineapple and juicy mango like flavors abound. Minty and mild sensing herbal finish, which comes with a good almost sweetned creamy vanilla quality to balance out some of the bitterness.

    Neat tasting IPA.

Beer Turkey Day is usually the Saturday before Thanksgiving, so that would be Nov. 18th. Why mess with tradition, even if it's a new one?

Other Half / The Veil - Coir Boiz
DIPA with Coconut - canned 7/16/17 (42 days ago)
    Total: 3.97 (-3.5% rdev)

L - Murky yellow body with a miniscule 1/8 inch head that's gone in a flash. Not used to that in an Other Half ipa!

    S - coconut, melon, honey.

T - the coconut is present but in the background. Honey is the primary thing I'm tasting. It's quite sweet.

F - medium. A much thinner body than usual for OH. And heavily carbed.

O - I can't decide if I like this one. It's different, I'll give it that. Reminds me of Tired Hands' Pineal quite a bit. Definitely one of the sweeter IPA's I've ever experienced from OH.

Long time no see, NBS folks!

Well, really it hasn't been that awful long. I went back home and watched the eclipse this past weekend with family and it was a truly amazing experience. I knew kind of what to expect and yet it still blew me away. It was beyond words and getting to watch it in the middle of nowhere (despite there still somehow being plenty of people, including two weirdos having a 'roll in the hay' in literal hay on the side of the road) definitely added to the overall coolness.

The other upside of this awesome trip was getting to schlep back pounds and pounds of new and exotic (to Quebec eyes) beers. One of the ones I am most excited for may seem mundane but there is an almost total lack of German beers here and so I jump on any new/interesting ones whenever I have the chance.

My new beer for today is an Ur-pils from Pinkus. According to the label it is the "world's first organic brewery". I am going to be pedantic and guess that they mean to say that it is the first brewery to be certified organic by some official body (I assume by the USDA or some German/European organization) but I admit that marketing-wise their way sounds better. It reminds me of a poster I saw at one point that said, "Eat organic food or, as your grandparents called it, food". Anyway, I digress. On to the beer.

It pours fairly clear with a nice, tight two-inches of white froth on top. The smell and flavor are both to style and pretty in line with my tastes as well. Bready malt and Euro hoppiness offsetting it. The flavor has a little more going on than the aroma, but they do fairly well both separately and together. This is a nice beer that I'd be happy to try again and thrilled to have super fresh. Everything as it should be.

    Here is my review.

    Cheers!

'fruit rollup' is a perfect descriptor for something I've been noticing in ddh beers lately. I've seen others use 'overripe fruit', and I've used 'juice concentrate' myself, but they don't hit the mark quite like 'fruit rollup' does.

Now, whether that's a good quality or an undesirable one is another discussion altogether...

God morning NBS and thanks @cjgiant for the start off today. We are just back from a hike up MT. Sugarloaf, the colleges are starting to fill. It is always interesting watching the families out and about in our small piece of the world. We do a bit of reminiscing of our dropping of the kids at college this time of year.
Today's offering is from our friends at Jackie O's, the Gose is delicate, and exceedingly clean an the palate. We enjoyed this quite a bit because of that aspect. Sadly only one bottle in the house.
    Cheers all

Poured from a recently purchased bottle dated 2017, into the test glass.
A - Golden and clear, excellent carbonation tops out with a thin pure white cap. At first glance the is perfect pilsner in visual.
S - That mixed culture is up front in a good way, Summer grains and lemon grass, some citrus rine , and a bit of coriander.
T - Wheat ale for sure, hints of coriander, a very nice citrus thread, and cheese rine in ash, again in the best way.
M - Lite in body, the carbonation almost tickles, a bit sour, not overbearing in that department, the saltiness is delicate. Dry finish and the faintest linger of spice. The palate response is toward the dry side,
O - A deftly crafted offering, I like the stainless conditioning, very clean in every aspect. The salt and spice are integral and not overbearing. Exceptional mouth feel and finish.
    A delight

A very murky unfiltered amber color with lots of head and no lacing.

    Lots of fruity aroma.

Taste follows the smell with lots of fruity flavor and a lot of carbonation.

    A fruity lightness.

    Well done farmhouse ale.

Greetings fellow NBSers! I have to head to work in a bit, and likely won't be joining in the shenanigans this week, yet, I wanted to post a reminder that there is only one small week until the sign -up period for NBS BIF #6,Roadrunner vs Coyote is done. If you think you might even be a little bit interested, please go join on this thread: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/nbs-bif-6-sign-up-thread.529897/

On a very personal note; I am always happy to hoist a glass with y'all most weeks here on NBS. Although I likely won't be this week, cuz work, there was a moment earlier this week where the possibility of my hoisting any more glasses, whether virtually or in real life, was very real. Needless to say, I am still above the dirt, and want to thank y'all for joining me at this electronical bar-rail. Thank you for all the fun (and, sometimes pain) we've shared over the years. Cheers, and happy NBS everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

L - 1-finger head dies rapidly, leaving no lacing. Deep yellow body.

S - pineapple, pineapple, pineapple. I'm sure there are other things to smell here but that's beyond me.

T - pineapple, biscuity malt, some saltiness.

F - light body, highly carbed.

First up today 3 Sheep Fresh Coast, thanks @GreenBayBA! As much as I enjoy the NE hazy IPA thing it is very nice to see a pale ale, even though it is hazy, have that classic malt backbone like you find in SNPA.

    Thank you GreenBayBA for this
12 oz can, dated 7/24/17, poured into a snifter

A- A hazy golden amber with a three finger white head.

S- Citrus, citrus zest, some pineapple/tropical fruits, wet grass.

T- Some citrus and tropical fruits up front, nice combo of caramel malts and toast, floral and slightly piney finish.

M- Smooth, light to medium body.

O- A solid Pale Ale, easy to drink. The only noticeable flaw in the beer is the nose has a fairly heavy wet grass thing going on which I really don't like, but luckily it doesn't come across in the taste.

I hope your Sunday is finding you with a great new beer in your glass...

Made a Nashville beer run yesterday, so I have a couple of new beers to try today.

First up is Dank Candy Rainbow Drops from 450 North Brewing.

Right off the bat, I really like the can art. It's got s kind of psychedelic thing going on.

It's a little bit ugly. Lots of sediment and floaties, but brings a big hop punch and some solid flavors. Very enjoyable DIPA.

Poured from 16 oz can with no date on the can but sticker on the four pack says 8/02.

A: Very hazy golden yellow with dense frothy white head. Long retention and heavy lacing. Lots of sediment and floaties.

S: Grapefruit, orange zest, fresh pine, and floral hops.

T: Big punch of dank floral hops that hits you in the face on the first sip. Grapefruit, pineapple, and oranges with a floral quality.

M: Medium almost full body with a soft creamy texture. Easy drinking for the ABV.

O: Very good DIPA. My first from this brewery and hopefully not my last.

So, Aslin's Sweet Berry Wine is described as their Pew Pew Pew triple IPA conditioned on a variety of berries: Blue, Black, Straw, and Rasp. I have not yet tried Pew Pew Pew. I added this beer as an American Double/Imperial IPA as that is the more prominent style mentioned by the brewer. I think it still fits, though I could see it fitting right in with the fruit beers, as well.

Ok, I didn't expect too big a variance in my after lunch version of this beer, and my expectations were met. I noticed mostly the same things but in ever so slightly different order/magnitude.

The first change was the beer had a more bitter aspect in the nose right away, though this faded with warmth and could be explained by temperature as much as any change in my perception.

The herbal aspect of the beer came out more in the beer's flavor on this pour. It even covered up the citrus aspect I got before lunch at first. The citrus came on later (again with warmth), but the herbal ending stuck around more than I noticed this AM.

Anyhow, my official review is now written, and it is very similar to my morning review. In a very general way, the difference I came up with is that the overall impression of this beer this afternoon was that of a slightly more bitter and less sweet beer than this morning (maybe the opening sour beer had a minor effect).
