Wandered down to Rocket Republic for Sunday yoga and beer.

This is their Blood Orange Mach I IPA. Crazy looking. Ruby red and even some pink tint to the head.

Big aroma and flavors of blood oranges and pink grapefruit. Very well done.

Poured on draft in the taproom.

A: Ruby red with 1-2 finger pink head. Lasting retention and moderate lacing.

S: Blood oranges, tangerines, and pink grapefruit.

T: Blood orange front and center. Slightly bitter pink grapefruit.

M: Mwdium body with average carbonation. Finishes with some hop bitterness.

O: Very nice twist on one of their standards.

No, I definitely got a lot more chocolate. I'm not sure why, but I wasn't thinking too much of coffee - maybe my mind was swayed more by the word "cake."

Happy Sunday, BAs. This one pours a vibrant, highly-hazed yellow-orange color with a fat finger of near-white head.

Tangerine, peach, white pepper and herb in the nose and continue to the taste. Sweet orange creaminess mix with a nice moderate bitterness. Pepper lingers in the aftertaste.

Medium to heavy bodied with creamy feel and enjoyable carbonation. Delicious.

This Sunday's first New Beer is a porter brewed by the good folks at Alchemist and received through the good offices of @jhavs.

Sadly, I think it was infected.
Band-Aid-y nose, with a flavor that mostly matches, though there's hints of some roasty, chocolaty malts to be found. I'm not reviewing this, as it's clearly not what was intended. Too bad, as the scores are kinda epic for this one. Oh, well. One lemon in a box that included Heady isn't a bad average.

Looking back on my review from January 2017 I got quite a bit of pepper in mine and coffee as well. My local shop just got some more in and I picked up a couple bottles so I will re visit.

One more while I'm here at Rocket Republic.

This is Solar Flare. Listed on the board as a tart Belgian Gold Ale. It's got some qualities of a Belgian like pale ale but not at all tart.

    Tasty none the less.

Poured on draft in the taproom.

A: Pale yellow with smallish white head quickly settling to a thin ring.

S: Biscuit malts, Belgian yeast, and maybe a touch of honey.

T: Lightly sweet biscuit malts with distinctive Belgian yeast.

M: Medium body with light carbonation.

    O: Easy drinking refreshing beer.

Back at it here NBS players with a not so mysterious new beer. My second new beer today is Awake, porter aged with coffee, from Night Shift brewing. The brew checks in at 6.7% abv and has a 6/5/17 canning date.

A dark brown pour with a very frothy tan head. The nose is pungent with coffee, rinds, and sugar. The pungent coffee hits upfront on the very first sip with a rather bitter flow and finish. Big notes of chocolate malt, vanilla, caramel, lactose, and brown sugar. The mouth feel is on the lighter side but it works and does not go toward the watery side. There is a lot going on in this brew and despite the heavy use of coffee the base porter seems to somehow not be completely drowned out.

Overall, a pretty good beer that I could drink plenty of. It's very coffee forward but I like that. I'm in the low 4's here,

Happy Sunday, new beer tasters and commentators. I like @cjgiant's idea for planning something special for NBS #666.

Our daughter is an archaeologist and is currently pursuing her PhD. During each of the past 7 years, she's spent at least a month in the Middle East working on an excavation. She's often spoken of a brewery on the West Bank run by Palestinian Christians who returned to their home town in 1994 after an extended exile in America. They brew German style beers. I'm finally getting to try one - Taybeh Golden, a 5% pilsener. The BA ratings were pretty low and I didn't expect much but I was pleasantly surprised. It's more flavorful than I anticipated and is super-drinkable on a hot day like today. It's better than a lot of domestic pilseners I've tasted. Too bad they don't distribute in the USA. Here's my review:

    3.5/5 rDev +9.7%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Undated bottle poured into pint glass. It pours a bright, clear golden color with half a finger of soapy, milk-white head and lacing. The myriad bubbles ascending the glass give it a champagne look. There's little on the nose, mostly cracker and grass with a whiff of spice and yeast. The taste is dry and grassy with a solid base of cracker malt. There is a hint of spice and some insignificant hop notes at the finish. This pilsener is crisp and dry, with lively carbonation, and truly sessionable with its 5% ABV. Perhaps the carbonation could be dialed down somewhat. I have to say I'm a little surprised by the low ratings. This is a nicely brewed pilsener with more flavor than I expected. This is a fine beer for yardwork or warm weather lounging.

I hope you're all enjoying your new beers!

Good Afternoon everyone, thanks to @cjgiant for getting us going this morning. I was going through my beer fridge last night and found a few beers I had forgotten about and this was one of them. Central Waters BBA Brewer's Reserve Barleywine, this was the 2017 version and I have to say I am very impressed with the rich dark fruit, caramel and bourbon flavors in this. It is also very smooth and easy drinking. I need to find more of this for sure!!!

Appearance 4.25- Pours a beautiful ruby/caramel color with a thin tan head that dissipates to a thick ring around the glass.

Aroma 4 - Nice aroma of dark fruit, vanilla, oak and bourbon. There is also a good amount of sweet caramel/toffee.

Taste 4.5 - The flavors are much stronger than the nose let's on. Plum, raisin, toffee, vanilla and a nice amount of bourbon and oak. The taste is not as sweet as the nose let's on either which is a good thing in my opinion.

Feel 4.25 - Creamy soft carbonation, the bourbon gives a warming feel very smooth.

Overall 4.29 - An excellent tasting very smooth barleywine, very balanced.

The beer pours a nice amber color with a good head and lacing.

It has a malty and caramel smell.

The taste is malty with a hint of pecan.

A smooth, light and well carbonated beer.

    A decent summer beer.

Terrapin Maggie's peach ale. Artificial aroma but the peach flavor came off okay. Low carbonation with a flat orange gold color. I believe there is spice ,perhaps pepper in it that makes it seem off a bit. Part of me says it's ok and another wants to head towards the sink to pour it down the drain. I'll be fair and judge that it's just not for me although the peach flavor seemed to be alright[IMG]

    "Beer Turkey Day"?

We're soaking wet and getting wetter here in the Brazos Valley. Harvey has doused Bryan-College Station with 8-plus inches since Friday night. The rain has been nonstop for almost 48 hours and looks like it will stay so for another 2-3 days.
It sucks mostly for little Huevos the Puppy Dog, but for all the inconvenience of it, so far we've just gotten wet, not flooded or worse. My big hope has been that family and friends closer to the coast don't get flooded, but it looks like some are. Guess it was our turn. :cold_sweat:

I do have beer. New beer, too. While Harvey dumped buckets yesterday, I made the mad dash from the car into Harvey Washbangers (no joke) with an umbrella and a pair of empty half growlers. And when I got off the late shift early Sunday morning, I dove into this one:

    (512) ALT ... an altbier

Coppery red with the big fluffy head, (512)'s ALT has that rusty toasted-malt everything I think of when I think of the style. The nose is a bit medicinal at first, and even as it warms, it opens up only a little into a hint of toasted bread with brown sugar/molasses, but only a hint. It never smells very sweet. The taste, however, is a load of toasted-malt flavor, again never very sweet and at times almost peaty, but the highlight is a super tasty oak-wood flavor in the aftertaste that grows and grows and grows with each sip. It's a bit like an Oktoberfest in that regard.

    The review:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/17863/48619/?ba=Premo88#review
    4.02 (+5.5% rDev)

It would score a bunch higher if the nose had more pop, but the bottom line is it's very good ... really hit the spot after work, and the 32 oz. made for a good little session.

Travis Roy was a collegiate hockey player from Yarmouth Maine that played at Boston University. In 1995, Travis got onto the ice for his first shift and sustained an injury that cracked his fourth vertebrae.

The Travis Roy Foundation comes here to Vermont through his wiffleball tournament to raise moneyfor quadriplegic awareness.

1st Republic brewed this stellar New England styled IPA for the foundation. This beer is only found at the brewery.

    Bottled on August 11th, 2017.
The aroma settles in on clingy gripping grapefruit rind and pulp playing with a little white pepper, hints of grassy freshness and a nice rounded out little bit of tobacco, perhaps a touch of wood.
The flavor was moderately crisp sweet with a substantial juiciness striding in for balance. Crisp semi-sweet juiciness glides into the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a pretty good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt on par. ABV felt appropriate. Finish was somewhat gritty, with a little bit of dryness and a bit of stickiness (acceptable to me).
Overall, to me, it's one that I think Travis Roy would like himself as it seems to pack all of the punches Travis himself would have done on the ice. Fitting beer, @ 1st Republic!

    Happy New Beer Sunday BAs!

Always love when I have a chance to virtually digest a new brew with you guys.

Today's new brew is one that I am really exited about: Brix City Dope Nose

Brewery only limited release and Canned On: 8/24/17 - SUPER FRESH!

    Brewers Notes:

"Dope Nose" - 6% abv NE IPA brewed with tons of Oats and DDH at well over 4lbs per Bbl of Galaxy, Vic Secret and Ella. Huge tropical fruit notes are accompanied by a thick mouthfeel and creamy finish

    My Notes:

Wow, Beautiful beer. Pours with a very deep mango juice like haze on this one. Most certainly a New England/Northeast pour and appearance, 5/5. My room was flooded with aromas of juicy and sweet tropical fruits as soon as I cracked open the can. Once i stuck my nose in the glass I see now where the inspiration for the name comes from. But it's also a very distict aroma. The holy trinity of Australian hops, Galaxy, Vic Secret and Ella, provide such a elegant aroma that covers such a wide spectrum. Tropical fruits, dank herbs, lemongrass, spice notes its all so awesome. The taste is juicy sooth and creamy, full bodied, with a restrained bitterness thats just enough to let you know your drinking an IPA but doesn't detract from all the other flavors. Gotta give some credit to the yeast as well. Their fruity esters only add to the beer, and they seem like they were properly fermented as well. Guys im impressed with this one. So glad I got two 4-packs!
