I have seen post about people who are planing to try all of the top beers ( only two for me), or trying all the different styles. I am trying to have a beer from each of the 50 states. I have made it through 25 so far. I still need most New England states and some in the Midwest. I was wondering if anybody else is doing this?

I'm sorta trying to do it. I take the chance to tick off a new state whenever I can, but I'm not really actively chasing it.

I have done 42 and I joined in 2003. Not sure that it is all that important.

I'm doing styles and states. I only have 4 of 104 styles left and since the rest are hard to find, I'm chipping away at states, now up to 30. For each, I get the best example I can get my hands/lips on here in Southeast Dakota or during out-of-state beer runs.

Just recently finished all 50 states. You're gonna have to trade or visit the places, buy on-line, at least.

Well, South Dakota doesn't allow online sales, and I don't trade for reasons I won't elaborate on, so luckily I live in and around some of the more difficult states to obtain. I'm looking forward to bagging some during business travel.

I'm aware of which states I have and haven't had, and it'd be neat to have had one beer from each state, but I'm not going out of my way to do it.

I've had from 39 states - missing 12 - and it's been that way for a while... (and no, it's not bad math - as of this post, the site counts Washington, DC as a state)...

Yeah that is the way to do it. Put it in with your dirty clothes as a cushion and absorptive should anything break.

But you MUST separate cans from bottles. One busted bottle will slice open all the cans it gets to.

Goddammit!! So I am 3 short... only two of which am I quite certain (ND and NV). The third is now going to haunt my dreams until I figure it, damn you for making me realize this!!

Sure would be great that in addition to telling you how many states, styles, and countries you have, that BA would also show you the list of them. Because of this shortfall, I track them in a spreadsheet. I've run into discrepancies - such as BA suddenly showing me with one few style. Turns out that Kasteel Chocolate Quad was changed from a Belgian Strong Dark Ale to a Quad. On another occasion, BA and I were off by one on states and it turns out that a brewery had locations in multiple states, and one beer brewed in their "non-home" state threw my count off. Some might call this ticking, but really it's a quest :nerd:

I'm collecting both Styles and States. Recently completed all 104 styles and I'm 5 states away from completion regarding the latter (MS, AR, WV, ND, WY). It's a lot of fun, even though these 5 states have been very elusive.

I've been at this from Day One. I'm at 101 styles (lackinig the English Milds and Roggenbier) and 47 states (lacking RI, CT, ND, and AR), (DC is a state for purposes of this discussion.) I see one helluva road trip in my future.

I am not trying to have a beer from each state, but if I was, I wouldn't count beers brewed in a state outside of where the brewery corporate headquarters was... be it transparent or unobvious contract brewing. I don't see the point of crossing New Jersey off a list if the beer is actually coming from Massachusetts. Using BeerAdvocate's database would not reveal this at all.

I am a bottle/can collector, and a few years ago I decided to take inventory to see if I had one from every state. I was a couple short but have since added them via road trips. So now I have had a beer from all 50 plus DC.

However, that got me looking at whether I have consumed a beer while visiting all 50 states (plus DC), which I have not. Since doing that survey through my "Breweries Visited" spreadsheet, I've determined that I lack 10 states plus DC. So that is my next quest, and a trip that I'll take in a couple weeks will knock off NC, DC, DE and WV. That will leave Alaska, Alabama, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kansas, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. Over the years, I have visited all of those states except Alaska and Rhode Island, and I likely had a beer in a restaurant or bar when there, but it was not documented via a Place review here on BA. So some future trips may be planned from that absentee list.

I haven't really made an effort to tick all 50 states, I would some day like to tick all 50 but currently I'm at 28.

I agree with you that it would be better to have one from a state it was brewed in but sometimes that info is not available. The one I count from Montana is a contract brew but not sure where it is. Hopefully one day I can get one actually brewed there, until then I will keep it in the count. Mississippi is getting more options here but still will have to travel to finish my quest.
