A cloudy unseasonably cool day with lake effect rain showers has autumn written all over it. I dug in the beer fridge to lay to rest another oldie that was bottled Sept. 22, 2014. The sweetness and spice has settled down and the once boozy rum has smoothed out making it a very easy sipping 16.73% beer. A lot of chunks floating around, but it maintained really good carbonation. I'd say it was worth the wait!

Down to the cave to clean and sanitize dozens of glasses in the sinks. The keg line needs cleaning as well. Making the most of a bad weather day to catch up inside. Cheers, we're already over the hump!

I'm six hours ahead here in Saint-Gilles (Sint-Gillis if you prefer), Belgium...so here is my contribution...a beautiful beer by Brouwerij Van Honsebrouk - Barista Chocolate Quad (part of their Kasteel brand of beers).

Since it is likely the brewery puts a five year Best By Date for this, it is 5 months fresh and is drinking beautifully. (if you look at the alphanumeric line below the Best By Date, I surmise that this was packaged on 26 April @ 18:29).

The day started cold and rainy but by lunchtime is shiny and bright, so . . .

Taste is straightforward sweet malt, clean and relatively simple, but certainly malt. Hops interplay like a lightly spiced dish which is to say they're there but in the background. There's enough malt flavor to push it ahead of the usual AAL Amber brews without becoming sticky or heavy feeling. Finishes quick with a pleasant malt aftertaste.

    Mikkeller Spontanyuzu.

Really awesome sour with a wonderful aroma that enters your nose before you take a sip. This Japanese yuzu citrus works rather nice with beer. Good food pairing beer for Asian an d fish dishes to my taste.
    Cheers!

I didn't care for this fresh and 5-6 weeks did nothing to change my mind. That can of M-43 in my last post was from 06/30 and superior to this in my opinion. I used to buy a lot of Short's beer and now find myself walking away. It's great to be spoiled with choices for our differing palates!

Another sleepy day at the virtual bar reminds me of the joints on the SE side of Chicago when the steel mills closed.:frowning2:
