Yea, I totally get that it is reasonable for many people I am on a very shoe-string budget, though, and I won't be traveling out of town to go to this alone, so it's either $90+ travel or $120+ travel for my wife and I to both go. I'm almost exclusively a stout drinker, with a huge preference for BA stouts. So, I definitely get it is great for others, and that it just might not fit my bill =/.

Yeah I edited my repsonse on that. Should have scrolled up and read. My bad. I totally understand. Especially travel as well. I am not a big festival/event guy. So I wouldn't pay for it as well but that's because it's not my thing.

Based on that brewery list, I doubt this will be your kind of festival. I only see a couple of breweries on there that I know for their BA stouts. And as Rhinegeist themselves aren't really known for their barrel-aged beers, I doubt they'd stack their own festival with them.

I am going to hold off until I hear some more information about this. Rhinegeists space isn't exactly MASSIVE for a festival of this size, so I'd be concerned it'd be too crowded.

That being said, the brewery list looks really good.

Anybody else considered that it's $40 for 10 pours? Seems steep considering no mention of the beers or the pour amount.

Yes. I was thinking this also, but was unsure what "pour" meant, and how many taps are available. If every brewery has 7 options, that is a pretty small # of pours compared to the total. If everyone has 3, not AS bad. Also not sure the size of the pours.

I've never used all of my drink tickets at a beer event.

Yeah. Killer list of brewers and I am sure that I will find plenty of good beer to drink, but I am not driving almost 3 hours not knowing what. It's disappointing that they are not only not providing more information about the details, but don't seem to be responding to questions about it either from what I can find.

Agreed, most of the beer events I've gone to stop taking tickets like 30 minutes into it, if they even do take the tickets in the first place.

Hey man, sorry I didn't get back to you. I just started a new job, and I haven't been as active online lately as I was.

Yeah, Gus confirmed Schlafly pulled out of Ohio. Shame, because Tasmanian was delicious stuff when it was fresh. Their beer just sat on shelves, unfortunately.

    Cheers.

Sad thing is, I had no clue Schlafly was in Ohio in the first place. I had never seen any of their brews at the stores I went to. Doesn't seem like whoever their distributor was did a good job of pushing their brews here. I definitely would have bought their Pumpkin Ale and some of their other offerings. Oh well, I guess I'll just buy them in KY and IN like I did before.

    Aside:

Wish Schlafly would bottle their Scotch Ale like they used to many years back. I know many may not like this style, but I personally enjoy it as one of the best non-BA Scotch Ale versions out there. I'd buy 1-2 cases a year. I almost refuse to buy a growler if I go through when it is on tap because I don't want to drink 64oz over 2 days of it. That's not my style. But almost every time I have a Pizza I'd drink two bottles if I could just buy the damn thing.

To me, given the brewery list and the fact that tickets are rarely counted at these events the Rhinegeist Rare Beer Fest sounds awesome, but just my opinion. Shit, anything with Firestone can't suck. The price doesn't seem bad either.

Soooo, I know this is like...way far in advance (although, I hope not). How hard is it to find Thisty Dog - Wulver in Cincinnati when released? I'm a huge fan after I received one at the generosity of a BA from this thread, and I was fortunate enough to find a 4 pack while in Columbus later (which I quickly pounced on!). Soo, just wondering how difficult this is to find when it gets released. I'm expecting to be in for either T-Day and X-mas, or just one of them.

Distro around Akron/Cleveland is really good, so worst case, I'm sure someone would send you some. Not sure about Cincy distro, but I think Jungle Jims had quite a bit of Thirsty Dog last time I was there.

Side note, it's a great beer and their barrel program overall is seriously underrated.

    Thanks!

Agree on the last part - and a follow up comment:

I received a bottle of their BA Siberian Night, and while I could appreciate that it was done well, I did not like it that much. There was something about the interplay between the barrel and the RIS that just gave me a funky flavor. I got the same thing from the Dosavidanya (RIS in Rye Barrels), and then again from BA 1050. I think that my palate simply doesn't like BA RISs much. There just consistently is this very wierd/odd flavor to me that I can't put my finger on. [Aside/disclaimer: I am in no way saying the beer has an off flavor, I am saying that to my palate, I tasted an odd flavor that I personally do not enjoy - across all these.]

That said, it may not be "for me," but I did not think that BA Siberian was that much different from BA 1050. So, if anyone is reading this and likes BA 1050, but haven't had BA Siberian, it'd be a good idea to check it out this winter.

I'm pretty sure Wulver is still on the shelves around Cincy.
