Hi all, I just moved from the east coast to the east side of Seattle. I'm in the city during the week. I'm not asking this because i need trade bate. I need good beer to drink. When are the best bottles released? Are any seasonal? Do they get distribution or brewey only? Any cool events anually to check out? What's the best way to keep up with limited releases around here? All suggrstions welcome. Thanks, Antonio
When are the best bottles released? all year round Are any seasonal? most are Do they get distribution or brewey only? both Any cool events anually to check out? Brouwers does hard liver-barley wine fest and back in black stout fest. What's the best way to keep up with limited releases around here? this forum/ t4lk beer - follow breweries on instagram, facebook, twitter. ha! if you put in t4lk beer spelled correctly it automatically changes to "Talk about beer" lol, bros don't like competition.
The short answer to your last question is to check this forum periodically. Your other questions... Maybe read over some of the more recent threads in this forum that pertain to Seattle. Pretty much all the information you're asking about can be found in previous threads in the Nw forum. In particular, I would recommend reading over the "visiting seattle" thread, the Fremont brewing thread and the Holy Mountain thread. Good luck.
Most folks on the forum would agree that the list of great barrel aged beers around here starts with Fremont. They do several recurring seasonal releases: KDS (bourbon barrel aged Dark Star), B-bomb (bourbon barrel aged Abominable), and Rusty Nail are the main three. Some of these have variants. All of these are sought after, but not impossible to find at release time. All are remarkable. Next on my list to look for would be Deschutes. They are also masters of the barrel aging game. Abyss and their Black Butte anniversary series (with Roman Numerals, e.g. Black Butte XXVI) are the ones that come around every year. Mirror Mirror is a great barrel aged barleywine that comes out every few years. Other breweries around here also do excellent barrel aged beers, but the volume of their production is more limited, and you'll need to be lucky. Look for Reuben's, Holy Mountain, and others. Black Raven's Great Grandfather Raven is terrific, but hard to find. There are other beers from outside the Northwest that are routinely available here, and might be new to you. Firestone Walker's barrel aged beers are excellent: Parabola, Sucaba, and others are regularly available here. Parabola is right up there with our best, IMHO. There are other barrel aged beers available from out of state that aren't quite as sublime, but still worth checking out, if you are a bourbon barrel fan: Ten Fidy (Colorado) is superb in its non BA version, and easy to find. The BA version is harder to come by. Sierra Nevada's Narwhal is available in a BA version, although I don't find it worth the $$. Epic's Big Bad Baptist series (from Utah) is worth trying. And don't neglect the Alaskans. Midnight Sun and Anchorage Brewing both do terrific barrel aged beers. Look for Berserker, for example. Hope this helps. Hey, I'm a big barrel aged fan, so I thought I share with you some of the stuff I look forward to every year.
From almost a year ago, and it discusses non-BA stouts too, but should give you some additional breweries to investigate: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/pnw-stouts.460728/
I realize that this is slightly OT, but, Alaskan's Smoked Porter, while not barrel-aged, is a beer that OP should keep an eye out for. Great beer, at a reasonable price, that ages extremely well. To @tony32408 , welcome to the neighborhood! Not sure what you're used to, but, we've got a lot of really great beer, from a lot of small local/regional breweries, that doesn't get packaged, and maybe only a few kegs leave the breweries. Draft only stuff at our breweries is still the norm. I encourage, and congratulate you on, your upcoming expeditions. BTW, when you're ready to take a trip North, I will be happy to show you around Bellingham. We might have a couple worthy breweries up here.
For @tony32408, if it's not hard for you to make it out to West Seattle when you're in town during the week, you might want to stop by Super Deli Mart (https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22901/). Their online tap list shows they now are serving 2015 Berserker, as well Skookum's Murder of Crows. These are a couple of the good bourbon barrel beers you can find around here, but the Berserker is pretty unusual to see on tap, so I thought you might be interested.
