My CAN (...dolences?) (...gratulations?) on the job situation, kinda sounded like you were happy about it in your post, but really unsure about that, so pick the ending that applies.

Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll ship some down here...it's not like Skins fans have much love for Dallas either.

Being a big fan boy of the Stone IPAs, I had to snag the latest collaboration - Fruitallica.

It seems these collaborations are getting more and more out there, and this is no exception - a DIPA with yuzu, kiwi, and habenaro.

The peppers seem to distract from what might otherwise be a nice juicy DIPA without adding much heat. For my palette, there are too many competing flavors and aromas for this to reach the next level.

Overall, I'm really disappointed with this one.. it's decent, but not to the level I expect from Stone.

Poured from 22 oz bomber dated 8/11:2017. How are we just now getting this almost a month after bottling?

A: Cloudy orange tinted yellow with one finger dense white head. Lasting retention and moderate lacing. Doesn't look like a typical Stone DIPA.

S: Interesting blend of fruits with pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, and kiwi. Peppers but more bell pepper than habenaro.

T: Tropical fruits coming through but muted by the peppers. Mostly pineapple, peach, and kiwi. Some tartness that very well might be from the yuzu. Very little habenaro heat. Too much going on here, and the flavors seem to be competing.

M: Medium body with average carbonation. Finishes with some mild hop bitterness.

O: Interesting collaboration that I'm glad I tried, but also that I only grabbed one bottle.

Pours a very unique muddy pink grapefruit juice color with a thin, murky odd light brown head that dissipated extremely quickly and left NO lacing. Smell is rather muted with citrus, cherry and lime notes. Tastes more like a fruited ale than an IPA. Tastes of orange, lime, lime zest, cherries, pineapple, very sweet and a mild hop presence on the finish. Minimal bitterness, dry mouth feel, light bodied and light carbonation. Glad I picked up only a single of this one, it is different but definitely not worth the $18.99 for a four pack. Decent beer but very gimmicky.

Sharing this dessert stout with my wife. This is Salted Caramel Imperial Stout from Southern Tier It is 10.0% ABV.

It is black with a teensy mocha head.
Aroma as the label implies: caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and booze.
Salted caramel taste. Booze, chocolate, some vanilla, and some coffee.
    Smooth. Nice dessert beer.

Happy Sunday, NBS crew! @vabeerguy sent me some fresh Veil brews this week, so I'm trying to clear out my older Veil stuff today to make room for the freshies.

The Veil - Wakeup - DIPA
    Canned 8/22/17 (19 days old)
    Score: 3.81 (-7.3% rDev)

    L - 1-finger off-white head leaves very little lacing. Murky dark-orange body.

S - citrus, hard candy, booze. Don't remember ever smelling the alcohol in a Veil ipa before.

T - Candied adult orange slices. Booze from the nose is showing up strong in the taste as well, preventing the hops from doing their thing.

    B - Medium-full with very low carbonation.

O - the booziest-tasting brew from the Veil I've yet to try. They usually do such a good job of masking the alcohol, but not so much here. Still, a lesser Veil brew is better than most any other ipa out there.

Anderson valley holy gose. Orange gold color, aroma has a very slight hint of malt and hops but with lemon and orange up front. Light easy to drink, low abv so no bite from that it hop bitterness. I must give this beer credit because it's tart and citrus/bitter but perfectly done to the point tjats pleasing ,not throat choking tartness[IMG]

I'm sorry to bombard NBS with two beers on the first page but oh well. Crazy Mountain is my unofficial favorite brewery. Not yet official because I think Epic are right there as well. So here is Snowcat, a coffee stout weighing in at 5.9% ABV.

Looks like my soul -- blacker than the bottom of the ocean. The cream colored head recedes to a solid film on top while lacing is random lines, dots, splotches.

Extremely burnt coffee and over-roasted malt is what I smell. Somewhere hidden in this is a touch of milk chocolate.

The beer tastes very burnt -- almost like an imperial stout. Dark roasted coffee is imprinted all over this with a sharp bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly dry.

Overall, a sharp contrast to the milk stout I tried before this. It's good, but a bit too charcoal-tasting for me.

Happy NBS. Thoughts go out to all those that will be impacted Irma. I know that there will be difficult times ahead for you, but I am sure teh kindness of strangers will help.

Today I am enjoying a new IPA from The Brewing Projekt. It seems that this new brewery decided to finally bring the turbid IPA to WI since all the other breweries in this state have not really needed to as they have solid beer sales.

It pours a turbid and dirty orange with a 2 finger head that fades slowly and leaves webbed lacing on my glass. The scent is lovely citrus, pear, pineapples and mangoes. The El Darodo hop gives an incredible tropical juicy to it. Absolutely fantastic topical fruits in the taste is more of the same citrus and pear, peaches, pineapples and mangoes. A bit of slight grapefruit and pine bitter, malt in the finish. Excellent carbonation with oily hop residue and dry finish

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @cjgiant for getting us underway, and to the firefighters who have been dealing with things like this:
that have produced days like this:
(neither of these photos are my work).

This is the first day where the air quality in Spokane has been "Good" for awhile. For much of the week, it was "Very Unhealthy " or "Hazardous," so as an asthmatic I'm tickled to death to see blue sky and be able to breathe today and not have it feel like my cousin's Newfie is sitting on my chest.

Today, I'm segueing (is that an actual word?) from coffee to beer with a coffee beer.

I'd call it good, not great, but it's not a bad one to have available in a can.

BAs in Irma's path, wishing you safety to you and yours. BAs cleaning up after Harvey, you are not forgotten.

    Now, BRING ON THE FOOTBALL!

Wish I had the time to go to Weyerbacher for some Dalles Sucks, hopefully I can have it ready for next week. Still found a beer that shows my support for the Eagles, 2SP Delcofest. The head brewer is a big Philly sports fan so some Eagles reference had to make the can.

T- Caramel malts, toasted sweet bread, touch of light fruits, floral hops.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- A tasty beer, I'm not really familiar with the whole Oktoberfest style but it seems like it fits the style well based off of what I have read.

After hitting the gym, I showered up and cracked this thing at kickoff (though to get in a review will take some time).

Staying with my own sub-theme, I decided to go with a beer from an adversary, it would seem. @SomethingClever was nice enough to send me some beers, then he told me this one wasn't any good. I knew he didn't really like me. But, he may be lulling me into a false sense of confidence, let's see how this game plays out:

This Wolf's Ridge Dire Wolf variant called Coco Joy is listed as an imperial coconut stout on the label. On paper, this opponent looks strong. The black uniforms are mildly intimidating. The helmets are a brown (or dark tan) matte, and the players don't remove it between plays. Marks of color from these helmets do end up marring to glass helmet of the opposing team pretty well.

I'm not smelling any fear in this one, and the players aren't acting too [coco]nutty, despite a quick pretense to the contrary as the locker room doors opened. They're a bit more tame than I'd expected, and they must be roasting in those black uni's - I can smell it. I wonder if they'll melt like chocolate as I am slowly getting a faint impression they might once the game starts.

The team's offense is a bit straightforward. I expected a couple wrinkles here, but my team wasn't running into anything they hadn't seen before. There was a bit of strength in the roasting black-clad opponents, and they seemed to rely on it more than expected. Any finesse from additional plays we hadn't scouted on tape was surprisingly lacking. Definitely no tricks here. The offense ran smoothly, like a well-oiled machine and didn't completely fail at achieving a level of success.

However, in the end, this was a lower scoring game that was not exciting to watch. Some solid play was witnessed, but the lack of the coach's promise to pull off a little extra excitement ended in a close loss.

Either way, thanks for the tickets, @SomethingClever - it was a decent stout, I just missed something more than thinking the little accent was probably coconut.

Pours hazy golden orange with particles. Thick, medium, off white head fades slowly to Rocky head and good lacing.

Smells yeasty banana, pear, funk, citrus, bready malt and light clove.

Tastes clove, banana, pear, apple, light burnt sugar, bready make and earthy bitterness. Finish is dry with yeasty and earthy linger. Medium body add lightly fizzy higher carbonation.

Watching the Redskins is is like watching reruns of of shows you didn't like the first or 13th time you watched it but you're watching it again anyway. Seriously, it's freaking tragic comedy in Landover. 24 days until hockey starts though!

So today I'm starting out with Attack Frequency from Modern Times

Hazy dingey yellowish orange with a minimal head once the pouring is over. Sweet candy orange blended with a little vegetal presence in the smell. Taste starts out more bitter than the smell, then turns a bit tart before everything evens out. Once I get settled in, the most dominant taste is straight up grapefruit, and nothing tastes sweet about this beer at all until a little cloying sweetness in the otherwise bitter aftertaste. Despite being able to describe this in particularly straight forward fashion, it's actually pretty complex with several layers or waves of taste.

New Brett IPA Sunday (Week 655)
Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Beauty day, cool and partly cloudy, a great day to cook outside, practice drums, and work on some writing, which are the entirety of my plans for the rest of the day. And drinking some excellent beer of course. And this baby is excellent for sure. Week 52, a Brett IPA from Chief, Jeff O'Neil, formerly of Ithaca and Peekskill, now doing amazing things at his new brewery, Industrial Arts, which just celebrated its first year anniversary with release of this beer. So glad he decided to brew a Brett IPA again, since his Super Friends, done at Ithaca some years ago, stands as the finest one I have tasted. Sorry for the crappy picture, but I am a crappy photographer is the simple reason for it.

For those in love with the combination of super earthy brett, bright and sharp citrus notes, full attenuation, and a deep bretty finish that stands in a class of its own, this is the beer for you. Full details are here:

-golden crowler pour with a slight haze, 2 cm foam cap to start. The effervescence is actually very tiny bubbles. The delicate aroma is of floral hops. Flavors include cracker-like malt and moderate hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is very dry. The brew feels much lighter than the stated 6.1% a.b.v. This is an enjoyable A.P.L.

Good afternoon NBS and welcome to NFL football. NFL has become the secondary of the two types in the house though, but still fun to watch. Currently watching the Eagles take on the Skins and looking better about it this year than in the last couple of years.

Two new beers for this Sunday, first up is Victory Festbier.

Pours a clear, dark amber with a little white head that faded away rapidly to almost nothing. Smells fantastic and rich, brown sugar and toasted malts dominating the smell. Flavor just can't quite follow up with the smell, it's sweet, some caramel, with a little black tea flavor coming in towards the end. Medium-light body and minimal carbonation. It's solid, but about average to maybe a bit above average for a festbier. Wouldn't turn it down but wouldn't seek it out.
