    Good Afternoon NBS

Heavy Seas distribution here is hit or miss so I grabbed a single Thursday on my weekly beer run. I missed this important note in my haste.

This is my 22nd Oktoberfest review this year. I'm just going to say after not drinking anything hoppy in a while, this beer hit hard with the hops.

    The review:
12oz bottle bb 1/4/18 poured into a.5L krug at fridge temp 6% ABV. The beer pours bright with a dark copper color approaching brown. The head is light tan and sticky. It settles to a nice cap and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is a jolt as it presents mild citrus and a hint of pine. The taste (citrus/pine) is overwhelmed by the American hops and only a subtle note of caramel malt comes through approaching the dry finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, well carbonated and a bit oily/sticky from the dry hop. The finish is dry and clean but, again, the amount of hops here could mask some major lager missteps. Overall, enjoyable, and they stated their intention on the neck label, but for me this is a miss.

I'll stand by my description, but might move the score up a few points. It's actually an enjoyable beer and I might have been overly harsh with the numbers. This is an American pale lager all day long and actually pretty good at it. Cheers friends! :beers:

First time drinking anything from this brewery, As mentioned need to try a fresher one.
A -Deep color with nice light head, nice lacing.
    S- Very citrusy, good nose.
T- Lots of citrus , not too bitter. May be a bit hopper than fresh as it's ~45 days old.
M- Fairly carbonated but still a creamy feel.
O- It's not fair to be critical since my friends had it for close to 2 months. I look forward to having a fresh one when in Asheville.

Pours an amber copper color with a little head and lacing.

    A bready grassy splendor.

Hops grassy pleasant bitternessness with a slight sweetness.

A hearty solid body with some carbonation.

    Another solid beer by Lagunitas.

Another new beer to share with you folks today. Unfortunately it isn't much better than the first one....

    The review.

    Looks amazing.

Aroma is very mild. Some tartness and a hint of blueberry.

    Taste follows nose. Disappointing.

Feel is light, thin and airy.

Overall if this beer had tasted as good as it looked it would be perfect. I would not recommend it....certainly not at nearly $5 a can.

Remedy Brewing Nonsense IPA, 7% ABV, 85 IBU. Pours pale gold, nose is malt and light fruit. Taste follows with moderate bitterness. Not a fan of bitter beers but this was well balanced so the bitterness was not too intrusive.

Missed this thread last week as I was visiting my parents. But here's my post for today's thread.

This beer and the Seahawks and Packers game on in the background.

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a nice looking rustic copper colored soft chill haze with a nice finger and a half's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Some light concave lace swept around the glass nicely.
The aroma had a nice sweet rye to woody character slyly moving into the semi-floral rye sweetness of this blend. Some smooth caramel malts play with some fruity tangerines to sweet oranges and moved into the aftertaste with a slight noticeable booziness.
The flavor yields to the sweetness initially and develops a soothingly sweet woody to floral and slightly spiciness coming from the rye rolling over some "honey-ed biscuits." Slight tickle of the rye, honey, citrus and tangerines in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a clever sipping quality about it. Though the 9.2% was noticeable only as I was sipping it, it wasn't felt so much along with no boozy flaw as sometimes happens in some of these barrel aged burdens. This isn't a burden, but a very nicely done American Strong ale well worthy of having again.

Good Sunday afternoon, fellow new beer commentators. It's a lovely afternoon in Northern New Jersey but it's hard to enjoy it knowing what some of our friends on the west coast of Florida are facing today. I hope all the Florida BA's and their families are safe and well!

On Friday, Magnify and Barrier Brewing Company of Long Island released two collaborations. This one is Triple Dry Hopped Break the Bank. The original version of this DIPA was released this Spring. It's insanely hopped with more varieties than I can name (and I freely admit I've never heard of Vic Secret before). It features lots of fruit and lots of bitterness and should please lots of folks. Here's my complete review:

    4.29/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Reviewed two days after release so very fresh. Poured into Magnify tulip glass. It pours a turbid, mustard yellow color with fluffy, egg-white head and lacing with excellent retention. The nose features ripe melon, grapefruit, pine, and floral hops. The taste opens with a blast of fruit including some sweet melon, lemon, and grapefruit, combined with many different varieties of hops - some tangy and some bitter. There is pepper at the finish that started to become a little astringent as the glass warmed. You can taste the Citra and Nelson but the others are more difficult to discern. The important thing is that the tastes blend really well. This ale is fairly creamy and pleasantly carbonated. The 8.5% ABV is deceptive; for a beer this hoppy it drinks really smoothly. Overall, this is a solid variation of the original Break the Bank. Barrier and Magnify brew well together.

I hope you're all enjoying your new beers today. I'll be back soon with the second review.

Bomber poured into a pint glass. Bottled a month ago.

Pours an incredibly hazy and murky dark yellow color. Very little head but the little head that is there lingers nicely. Some lacing and no visible carbonation.

Smell is of zesty lime and citrus. Some vanilla and pine in there too.

Taste is interesting! First off the habanero is definitely not overpowering for me at all. I love spicy food but when I had the habanero sculpin I thought it was way too much. This is much more subtle. It is very bitter and has a really sharp lime flavor to it. I dunno what the hell yuzu is but maybe that is the lime flavor. Definitely not picking up any kiwi. Vanilla citrus and grassy pine with a little habanero heat that lingers on the tongue is all I can really pick up besides the bitter lime.

Feel is nice enough. Very refreshing and drinks thicker than most 8% IPAs / DIPAs.

Overall a solid beer in my opinion. I have to assume this beer is unfiltered due to the appearance even though they don't say anything about that on the bottle. The only other beer I've had that was unfiltered was the Stone Enjoy By and it looked nothing like this one so it was tough to grade the look.

Not much of an NFL fan but am excited football is back. Being a teacher I spend many Fridays at the high school field and my Saturdays are full of Cowboy football. Didn't play any fantasy football this season so Sunday will most likely be a recoup day for me. As for the beer I picked up a Prairie Imaginary Friend, their newest release, yesterday in Tulsa specifically for NBS.

A: Nice hazy yellow body. Poured a solid but quick disapearing head. Glass had lots of lacing after the beer was drank.

S: Nice hoppy aroma when poured. Picking up mainly hops mixed with vague fruit (grapefruit) flavors. The smells match the taste too.

T: Solid IPA flavors from a brewery known for stouts. Has a nice balanced taste of hops and fruit-like flavors I expect from IPAs. Nothing really stands out but this has good flavors.

M: Smooth easy drinker. The ABV is low enough there isn't a burn while swallowing. Really solid IPA.

O: For a brewery known mostly for stouts this is a nice IPA. Hopefully Prairie keeps putting out fresh versions of these. This would make a good tailgate beer.

Citrus smell, but it's not overwhelming.

A slight citrus taste, but being a session, it's not overpowering.

Light and easy to drink. It's not bursting at the seems with taste, but definitely a very nice pale ale.

Coincidental New Raspberry Sour Sunday for me in sunny Fort Worth:
    Avery Raspberry Sour

No official review yet but a definite 4.0-plus. Looks like a red gose, the half-inch head of beige foam fizzles away quickly. Tart lemon and slight earthy note, yeast and a little barn must, in the aroma with some fruit sweetness. The flavor has all the aroma notes plus some added raspberry/tart strawberry flavor, some sweetness included. Finishes with a little bitty taste of funk that ties it together nicely.

I love it. It's hard to score properly being outdoors watching football and a hard-charging smoker full of brisket, but I'd give it a 3.75 look/4.25 aroma/4.5 taste/5 feel/4.5 overall or something like that.

    About to eat:

Watching the Packers take on Seattle. Nothing but D so far.

Barley John's Mango Double Pale Ale. Dark orange gold with a nice 2.5 finger white head that leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is very intense fresh mango and the hops are noticeable, citrusy and floral. A big mango flavor hits right away and moves into citrus, with lots of floral and pine notes, and a crisp light bready malt in the middle. Slightly medium feel with good carbonation and a bitter, dry finish. This beer is very flavorful if you like mangoes and is a great thirst quencher.

I'm back. After all, what's a recovering NFL fan going to do today? The Giants always seem to open on Sunday night, usually against Dallas, and the game runs late. Not conducive to a good night's sleep!

Don't Sneeze is the second Magnify-Barrier collaboration released on Friday. This one's hopped with Lupulin powder, a favorite of Magnify. When I first tasted it I was rather disappointed but as it warmed the taste became more complex and I noticed some almost malty sweetness at the finish. While I like Break the Bank better, this is pretty good. Here's my review:

    3.94/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Reviewed two days after release. Poured from can into Magnify 2nd Anniversary can-shaped glass. It pours a hazy, golden-honey color with two fingers of fluffy, milk-white head and lacing with good retention. Not much of a nose on this one: I'm getting yeast and a touch of cracker with very subtle hops. Say what you want about Magnify, but it's DIPA's are seldom subtle; the tastes tend to be bold. With this one I can taste some Mosaic but beyond that it's mostly lemon peel and some biscuit. As the glass warmed a little, I noticed some sweetness at the finish that reminded me a little of graham cracker. It's crisp and refreshing with pleasant carbonation. The 8% ABV is fairly well masked and it goes down easily. Overall, I found that it grew on me as I drank it.

Afternoon NBS friends. Thanks @cjgiant for the real kickoff this week.
Personally I love the game of football. Ive played it, Ive coached it and its been in my life since I could walk. Big NY Giants fan. They have done more for my family (when my brother passed almost 3 years ago exactly) than I can tell you. But thats a story for another time. Pool is now officially closed. Kind of a relief because its just a pain to do.
Now its getting ready for tonights showdown in Dallas. So I picked one from NY from a brewery I havent had the opportunity to try until.....
Gun Hill Brewing Beast Coast DIPA
Pours a beautiful deep orange-gold with a 1/4" head that disappears rather quickly leaving very spotting lacing.
Aroma is lots of dank with candied tropical fruit. Deep overipe pineapple, mango, passionfruit with sweet citrusy notes- tangerine, orange and red grapefruit. I even get some ripe banana. Awesome.
Taste follows lots of ripe tropicals up front with a fantastic full rounded mid palate of dank fruits and citrus with that perfect malt sweetness. Finishing with a piney perfectly bitter finish with zero hint of its 9.8% abv. Wow.
Finishes nice and dry as the pleasant bitter finish whisks away that sweet fruit with the perfect carbonation.
Holy shit this is a top notch DIPA! Its has everything in all the right proportion. Balance but with no lack of flavor explosion in the middle. Simply a gorgeous looking, superbly brewed IPA. Im slapping myself for not buying more than a can. Without any authority I might say to the top in its class. I will be on the lookout for Gun Hill. From the Bronx!!! NYC! what could be better than superior NY beer for a Giants debut! Hey have a great night, enjiy the rest of the games and as always thanks for listening.[IMG] [IMG]
