GABF is approaching and I thought we could start a forum discussing events in the area, special tappings, and most importantly all the out-of-area breweries that will be making drops later this month.

First thing I've seen, well not in person, is Surly beer showing up in the Denver area, especially Todd the Axeman and Barrel Aged Darkness.

    Any cool sightings?

Jacks Abby is showing up around town right now. Not just the flagships either - they sent over the barleywine and at least one Framinghammer variation.

i saw just the regular stuff in FoCo so far, I'll have to look out for them as well.

Don't skip on Pure Project if you see them on tap anywhere. I was at their taproom a couple weeks ago and they're doing some amazing NE style IPAs/Pales. Also, here's the link to the FRTH list of events. There's a good handful that I'm interested in...

Looks like barrel aged framinghammer variants just dropped. A little hesitant to try them. Any thoughts?

Coffee and regular were very good. I grabbed a vanilla.

They're damn good, and that's not even my thing. Jack's Abby does a really good job of capturing a lot of the flavors that I like in German lagers, but with the whimsical twist a lot of American places overdo. I don't care for their (or any, really) IPL's, but everything else is really good.

First trip to GABF. Will keep an eye on this thread. Hitting up gabf on Thursday and rare fest Friday. Can't wait. Any tips are welcome.

Honestly, just wander around downtown. Freshcraft, Falling Rock, and Star Bar & any other beer bar you fancy in the area (those are typically my three gotos). The beer lists/brewers/people watching at those three will make you forget there's that thing people are doing a few blocks away.

My tip for surviving GABF is start slow and drink water.

With GABF, I tend to have 10 breweries that I want to hit and will head toward immediately. After that, you'll find that lines will usually have formed and anything in high demand is going to be a pain in the ass to reach. At that point I just wander for the next 2 hours, tasting whatever sounds good. If you go ham for the whole time, you WILL be in bad shape at Rare on Friday morning. Been there, done that. If you can, bail a little early and go grab some hearty-ass food before everyone else clogs up the restaurants down there. No matter how sober you might think you are at 8PM, you probably aren't.

I'll be coming from philly to experience gabf for the first time. I am staying at an airbnb a little north of Washington park west. Is that a decent area? Is there anything to do around there, or should I just plan to be downtown the whole time? Thanks!

Wash Park is cool, but mostly residential. If I were you, I'd just head down to LoDo and chill there the whole time. PLENTY of stuff to do downtown.

First year in about 15 that I'm not volunteering so I'm going have more time to attend other things. Not going to Rare Beer either, what am I going to do with myself??

We are going to the Sat member session of GABF. But I'll probably plop myself down at FRTH or Freshcraft for the week. I miss the private shares Logan hosted.
