After a few weeks of indulging in hoppy brews, or rich decadent stouts, f*cked-up funky sours (whatever your poison is), other than nixing beer for a while, what's your palate cleanser? That brew that washes delightful clarity over your hardworking tastebuds and olfactory senses

Personally, I'll switch to wine for a while, but in the beer sense, Stillwater Cellar Door and Pilsner Urquell have done the trick. Also in an ancient ritualistic sense, Cellar Door really should cleanse a lot with that white sage (sadly will not cleanse the liver).

I love me some Pilsner Urquell - its really the only beer I always have on hand. For me, Ill generally switch to a simple clean lager - helles, AAL, etc. Or just take a few days/a week off from any drinking.

Buffalo Trace bourbon or recently High West Double rye

maybe i'll enjoy my light homebrews but usually i just go whiskey to replace the hoppiness in my life

Since you're asking this during O'fest season- Weihenstephaner Festbier is perfect for that kind of thing, and pretty special in its own right to boot.

Does it have to be alcoholic? I rarely have more than one beer a night, but if I do I often have Some Diet Dr. Pepper in-between.

For the sake of keeping on-topic with the theme of this website, I'd probably keep it on beer  I've had threads deleted for discussing otherwise haha

Guinness. My beer runs consist of a bunch of IPA's, some porters, and always Guinness to calm it all down.

Rye whiskey is simultaneously my glorious peak and downfall, haha. Bulleit Rye is my go-to, but High West Double Rye sounds delicious.

A shot or two of that into a favorite stout does the trick.

I tend to constantly rotate through styles so much these days I rarely ever get sick of a style anymore. I got burned out on IPAs last year, but this year I love them again. I still drink them the most, but I'm constantly buying pilsners, saisons, stouts, porters, brown ales, quads, tripels, witbier, goses, etc., so I rarely tire of any particular style.

Any malty beer that is not too dark or too bitter will cleanse the palate. I like the czech pilsner.

Ever had High West Double Rye? it's a blend of 2 year old rye and 16 year old rye.
2 year old is 95% rye 5% barley. the 16 year old is 53% Rye 47% corn. it's pretty good but i enjoy Bulleit as well

also when i take an IPA break i start brewing and making iced tea. sometimes i drink the iced tea straight or i'll throw a shot of bourbon in.

i like using different kinds of tea to mix it up. there's a certain Welsh tea that i love

A change of pace is good in so many ways. Another thread suggest a bit of abstention. I find a nice bottle of wine with the bride does wonders for my taste buds and my relationship. While I really like IPAs a nice visit to a good wheat or wit helps reset the taste buds. I have really enjoyed the new Fat tire Belgian White as a nice change up from hoppy bears.

I swore off hoppy beers this summer and branched out from my norm. Palate fatigue and lupulin shift are real things, and having reset my palate it amazes me how many people are blindly affected. Seeing pilsner, one of the hoppiest and bitter german and czech styles, recommended almost unanimously reflects that. I also blame lupulin shift for all of the "Oktoberfest beers are cloying" complaints. This year even sam adams Oktoberfest tasted balanced, while in years past I have also been guilty of complaining about the sweetness. But I digress, I used Schwarzbier, kellerbier, helles, and kotbüsser to reset my palate.

If I'm in a drinking mood, i'll often switch to a refreshing cocktail like a Gin & Tonic (which is the most refreshing cocktail of all time IMO).

If I'm sitting at home sampling a few new beers, a cold glass of water seems to do the trick just fine.

Spiced rum and coke is my cocktail of choice.

I also like some Mead from time to time.

I always turn to farmhouse ales or saisons. Good palate cleansers during a drinking session and also a great change up from the usual hoppy beer or sweet stout overload on any given day of the week. So different than and IPA or stout. The other option is a good local Pilsner, have a few options now locally that are great and aren't very pricey either.

Exactly. If you find yourself getting sick of certain styles and you feel that you need to recalibrate your palate, you should think about drinking a more diverse selection of beers instead of drinking a certain style of beer as a "break" from what you normally drink.
