Actually, for being old and abused by the store, this isn't half bad, i.e. it's better than half good.

on tap today is a wonderful stout from Dogfish Head..Oak Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout..cheers!

 

Ya-haarrrr...a predictable choice for a cur like myself, on a day to hoist and celebrate a wee pint like a pirate. aaarrrrr.... cheers! All the way to the bottom, mateys!

I'm reviewing Oktoberfest numbers 31 & 32 this morning.

These two beers are produced by the same company, and, I have heard, are the same beer in different bottles. Not true, definitely two different beers. I prefer the HP by only .08 points it would seem.
At this point, I have sampled all the real contenders and Aecht Schlenkerla is my winner. It's a rauchbier, so Ayinger is actually first, followed by Spaten & HP. SN is the top domestic & festbeer entry.

I've been working in the yard all morning and now I'm going to attempt to rid my pool of the thousand leaves that fell into it while I was away working. AAAARRRG! A little Gose to ease the pain.

August Schell Oktoberfest. Great start to the lunch hour.

 

It was the word Pilsner that got my attention, I know, it really isn't, being Stone and all that, but . . .





Clear light gold color with voluminous, lasting fine white cap and classic lacing.

Aroma is rich malt without sweet undertones, just solid malt. Hops are floral, spicy and sharp.

Taste is a malty blow to the palate softened by a delicate touch of spicy hops. I get a mouthful of utter complexity reduced to simplicity. Like a perfectly executed forward pass with all the power it needs delivered with grace, style and discipline. This one delivers. Malt remains constant to the finish where flavor is handed off to the hops which assert a firm bitterness that lingers in the aftertaste. Very palate cleansing and rewarding.

Moat Mountain Call it a Day DIPA in a slightly cleaner glass. $15 with tip for a excellent sandwich and a nice DIPA hard to beat. The glass is the only issue.

 

That reminds me -- Glühwein season is only a few months from now.
