I see a lot of beers that are not available for sale that have been added to the site's database. If someone has access to a beer before the general public and can provide data for the beer it makes sense. What I don't get is a beer that has been added but the only information provided is the name with no other data e.g. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/16866/300322/
    What am I missing?

That does seem curious. I will occasionally add a local after it's available for general distribution but won't do that until after I've prepared a full review.

I have to disagree with you that there are a lot of beers in BA that are entered but not yet for sale - it is likely a very small percentage of entries and I think a lot of them come from society/club members that get the information before the general public and the beers are released relatively soon after the entry.

Actually, that entry includes the Name, Style, and Availability - which might be all the information that was provided by the brewery prior to the release (a lot of breweries do not release the ABV until the labels are created/it is tested, especially for barrel aged beers). Many beers do not have a commercial description as either the brewery has not made one public or no one submitted the update to get it added.

I have seen that before, usually at brewery only releases. I will update it if I get further information. Why they didn't review it I don't know, usually the ones I see have a review attached

I'm totally good if a review is attached, that makes sense, but I have seen several with minimal details.

To be honest, the only real issue I see with the beer page linked is the lack of ABV. Adding a description is a separate step, or at least has been when I've added beers.

No issue with it not having a photo. In my experience, limited and tap-only beers will not get a photo added just due to the nature of the situation.

Sure the adder could have reviewed it, but it's also possible they added the beer to the system to return with a full review at a later date. I do this myself. I may pick up a beer that isn't in the system - so I add it, and then review it when I can.

I have seen some posted when a brewery releases partial info. I am actually fine with this since most people won't rate it if the beer isn't there. There are worse things

For what its worth, Black and Blue BBLs, is part of the included bottles for next year's Reserve and Hoarders Society.

I don't know much else besides the name, but reasonable speculation would be that this is a variant of Blue BBLs: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/16866/139178/
( roughly a Black Tuesday, Tart of Darkness blend with blueberries ).

My guess is Black & Blue BBLs will add some black fruit into the mix?

Personally, I don't see any problem with adding this beer to BA, even with the lack of details.

Its one of The Bruery's 2018 line up that I am looking forward to. Also glad to see Blue BBLs making a return.

You used one of the beers I added, neat. I added that beer as it is part of the Bruery Hoarders Society package. No ABV was announced nor has it officially been released yet. We were given an email with whatever info I provided. If I recall it is blackberries they are blending in there but I'm not 100% hence why I did not include that in the notes. When consumed I will write up a review for it, as I do with all the beers I drink.

I add beers as I come across them. Whether coming across them is in an email, a social media update, or a brewery website or label announcement. In my opinion, this website is to create a beer database, which is what adding beers does. As more information comes out said beer will be updated (ABV), rated, and or reviewed. As such I personally like to add it as soon as I find out concrete information, which would be name and style, because that builds the database. As a user, I would rather see something/anything come up with a search for a beer instead of 'this beer cannot be found'. Hell seeing a beer with a 0 rating almost guarantees me purchasing it just to discover what it is like.

I'll sometimes add a beer without a ton of information. When I'm at a taproom I'll normally add some of the beers I don't see listed on here and sometimes all I have is the name and style. I can see why it'd be a pain to run into beers without much info or without any reviews, but at least it can be found.

I don't see a problem with adding beers with minimal info like this, but in this case the problem with adding a limited beer early (I don't know when in 2018 it's coming out) is that it will disappear into the archive much sooner. I could see a case made for holding off if only for that reason.

In our area it is generally a race between two people, @ThatsThatDude and @WillieThreebiers to get the most adds. I always root for @WillieThreebiers since he is a friend of mine.

Generally they add the info that brewery's provide, or nothing if brewers don't provide any info,. and usually don't leave a review/rating, since they usually scramble to add beers as soon as the first mention of them is made anywhere, generally before release.

But I have no opinion about whether it is good, bad, or neutral. I find it an interesting case of competition between folks with collector OCD but that's about it.
