Falling Water, awesome can, but that beer is an absolute mess. Nowhere near as good as the other two hazy beers I had (Picnic Lightning and Dig My Earth). I knew it as soon as I poured it, too mudwaterish. An Experimental IPA that didn't work.

Not so fast. My first pour was good. The can art circles are fantastic. I like to trip out looking at the circles. Let the can sit a bit and try em in stages. Just a thought.

I had one Tuesday and one last night and they were equally bad. I also gave one to a friend whos palate I trust and he agreed. How long should I wait to drink my last can?

Wait as long as you'd like. Up to you.

I liked Falling Water. Agreed it doesnt match up to Picnic Lightning, but it was def better than Super Collider. Dig My Earth was good fresh, but once my cans hit 4 weeks they were flat.

Agreed. I drank one, and gave the other 3 away.

Not as good as the other can releases. My least favorite from them all. reminded me of switcharoo with that ugly vomit color, but at least switcharoo was awesome tasting.

I thought Falling Water was a refreshing change of pace from the wave of hazy beers everyone else is producing, though maybe not the best tasting. Using buckwheat and spelt instead of oats is different for the style and I think it's a reflection of Brouwerij West's unique brewing process and equipment (mash filter).
I'll continue to seek out their new releases though I wish they'd sent some more Popfuji up north...

I kind of enjoyed Falling Waters. Not quite as hoppy as their other offerings, but, definitely something different but consistent with their overall style. Keep experimenting, I say!

Agreed, I really liked it, for many reasons, one being that BW continues to push the envelope with their beers, they said up front this was an experimental IPA, I went in understanding fully this could go either way and for me it was a lot of fun. With the proliferation of the NEIPA style that has pretty much become the norm we'll start to see a lot of variations on that theme, much like it was when the WCIPA became a 'thing" just a few years ago.

    Cheers,

Yeah, count me as another who really dug the variation of style with Falling Water. I thought the buckwheat/spelt was an interesting deviation from more standard oat malts. Thought it was super smooth drinking, and liked that their was significantly more flavor from "outside" the hops. But I get people being disappointed if they were expecting another basic NEIPA.

I continue to be impressed with what Brouwerij is doing, and personally believe that their take on NEIPAs stand at a level above pretty much anything else in the style that you can regularly and easily find on shelves. In fact, I'd put them on the same level as the NEIPAs of several breweries I've had to stand in line for, and am extremely happy anytime I can avoid that. Very much looking forward to their continued development and future releases.

I wouldn't put WCIPA in the grave. The haze is nuthin' but a faze thats here to stayz. But West is still the Best.

Right... was pointing out that the WC was a "thing" a lot longer than "a few years ago".

Nothing wrong with the haze thing. But I think a lot of the hazeBros are into that milk-like creamy thing if you know what I mean. It's okay every now and then. I guess.

    Balance is the key.

I've found that I tend to enjoy the NEIPA if I am just having just a beer and the WCIPA with food. I like the added bite of the WC to cleanse the palate.

Also, I am not sold on the "milkshake" thing either.

That milk-like thing was meant to be a milkcumshake thing. Joke.

Cum jokes aside, I think it's more of a baby food thing. The two most popular/hyped styles right now are pastry stouts and the NEIPA. What are first two flavors most babies are given to make them want to eat? Vanilla and orange. We are trained to like those flavors, it's no wonder so many adult palates still gravitate towards and find comfort in them.

Beer for people who don't like beer.

I mean, a good buddy of mine hated IPAs but has found a love for NEIPA. I thought, over time, he would enjoy hoppy beers enough that he would eventually begin liking WCIPAs... has not happened.

Don't get me wrong - some of those pastry stouts can be tasty, but at some point we are just drinking it more for the alcoholic candy bar/dessert flavor than the flavor of beer.
