Autumn brew from Southern Tier

 

Any stout's a breakfast stout if ya have it early enough...

From Dugges in Sweden, in collaboration with Stillwater in Maryland...

Cocoa Cacao, an 11.5% imperial stout featuring cacao, coconut, and vanilla...

I got a lot of rich, sweet coffee with a light char on the nose, followed by an almost tart chocolate on my first sip. the vanilla and coconut find their way in toward the back end and linger on the palate, along with some more flashes of chocolaty impressions. The feel was rather thin and slick, rich but not dense... The sugars are front-and-center all the way through, with very little by way of bitterness, and leaning toward sticky rather than drying...


Pretty tense game last night - I hesitate to say "good" because both teams made so many mistakes, and the defenses looked porous at times - but tense, as I'd picked the Rams but San Fran was banging at the door toward the end - and the game really wasn't decided until the final minute-and-change... Goff looks a lot better, and I was actually very impressed with Hoyer, who I'd come to think of as something of a throw-away quarterback at this stage of his career... SF cheerleaders get a big nod for those black leather bodysuits... Wow...

Layover in Oslo, Norway. Austmann Bryggeri, Trondheim - "IPA":



Cloudy but crisp. Juicy lite lemongrass, bitter citrus rind and earthy/herbal hops. Quite enjoyable!

This iteration of Stone's Hop Revolver IPA features Mandarina Bavaria...

Tastes like sticky, sweet, orange and pine resin - initially a little off-putting, but I'm warming up to it... Probably not my favorite hop, as I'm not too partial to "orange-forward" beers, but we'll see how it goes...

Got two more in the fridge to figure it out...

 

Hansa's "Bayer", a dunkel, with reindeer stew on almond mash potatos with lingonberry jam, and a side of fries:



Delicious food, and the beer is ok. Cheers from Oslo!

Good afternoon BAs,

Low 40s with rain and light snow today. Perfect stout weather unless you had your eye on a saison. Casey Saison dry hopped with Nelson and Motueka. Maybe I'll get to that stout later today.
