pick Corona over Sam Adams? Both the Sam Adams Boston Lager and their fall variety mix pack was $15.99, not long it was on sale for $13.99. How come beers like Corona and Heineken which isnt any better than a BMC but worse worse since its skunky in a green/clear bottle is worth so much when theres craft beers that uses real ingredients with no adjuncts thats the same price if not less? I thought you get what you pay for when it comes to beer. Not only is Corona expensive but it comes from poor countries with cheap labor so it should be even cheaper.

How come with a lot of import beers, you get BMC quality for the price of a craft beer? What kind of deal is that? Why would anyone pay so much for a beer like Corona or Heineken when they might as well get a Budweiser or Busch for way cheaper?

I would have to agree with Todd here, because they like it. "Different tastes has everyone." - Yoda

Because not everyone that drinks beer actually likes beer.

Also, because not everyone is a beer-obsessed nutcase like most of us.

If you think 17 bucks for a 12-pack of Corona is expensive, you'd probably faint at the very thought of how much it costs here in Europe. There are plenty of craft options here that are a LOT cheaper. And I'm talking 10+% imperial stouts.

Sam Adams is not a higher quality version of Corona. They're quite different.

Even if the price difference went from $1 to $5, I'd bet Corona buyers would probably still buy Corona.

I love Boston Lager. But if it's a hot summer day, or I'm heading to the beach, and my two choices are Boston Lager or Corona with a lime.........I'd probably choose the latter. Now if you were asking why would anyone buy Allagash White iif it's less money than Blue Moon, then you're on to something.

I also believe people drink that swill because they don't like the taste of beer, and these offerings give them exactly what they're looking for.

    Lighten up folks....

Clearly the answer is because they prefer Corona, but you are posting this looking to have your feelings of disgust validated. Since this is BA and all you figured you'd be able to have a few laughs with comrades about this. As such, I will not snark attack you as others have done. Instead I will laugh along with you at the sad state of affairs that is your experience.

I relate what you're discussing to a situation I experienced the other night. I was driving on a side street off of Federal Hill here in Providence. Federal Hill is our "Little Italy." There are a number of pizza joints on Federal Hill and a handful of them serve excellent pizza that is widely known throughout the state as top notch stuff. Anyway, I was driving by a house that is literally in the middle of three awesome spots for pizza. It is directly across the street from one, one block away from another and three blocks from yet another. And in front of this persons house what did I see....a Dominoes Pizza delivery guy walking up to the door with pizza. Not only is the quality of pizza vastly different, but so is the price (with dominoes being more expensive than two of the three closer options, one of whom also devliers). I was disgusted.

Now, the obvious answer to why they were doing this is because they prefer Dominoes pizza to those other places. That's fine, not everyone has the same taste. Nevertheless, to someone like myself this was mind blowing. Much as your experience of more expensive Corona than Sam Adams was mind blowing.

I find it painful to see such things because it makes me think that people follow marketing more than their own taste buds. Ha ha ha.

I'm sure advertising plays a big role in promoting Corona.

Not everyone who drinks beer is looking for the most flavor per $.

If its hot out and I'm thirsty, I would take an crisp cold corona over a cloying sam adams every time.

From Beeradvocate.com (October 2003)- Alstrom Brothers
In the link "Tips to turn you bar into a better bar" on the page Beer 101

"We know you have to make money. We know that certain beers are more popular than others, and that mass marketing creates a demand among the sheep for certain brands of beer..."

Maybe they're not sheep, maybe it's because they like it. :astonished:

Sorry to dig deep in the archives, but I think this is a good example of how on one hand BA founders perpetuate the idea of people who like macro being mindless followers, but on the other hand they slap BA users if they say anything of the sort.

You should be sorry, or get a temp job working for a political campaign.

Even though that was from 10 years ago, I still believe what we said, but perhaps it's just because they like it.

    I should be sorry? Ok....

In one instance you're saying people like macro because they prefer the taste and in another instance you're saying they like macro because they are sheep. That is confusing to me.

This is an easy question, unless you are unaware of Corona's magical ability to transport you onto a beach when you consume it. Try to top that Sammy.

Totally agree, but I would think after 16 years you might have your mind made up on where you stand on this issue. But those are my own assumptions and that's not really fair. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

I have. In case you haven't been following along, someone can be both a sheep to marketing and like it.

    Thanks for playing.
