Industrial Arts Metric Pils

Light yellow color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of slightly spicy sweet malt.

Flavor on entry is slightly sharp, herbaceous, spicy hops followed by sweet malt. This is not a complicated beer, rather an example of how much can be accomplished with just a few ingredients. Seamless construction that remains consistent to the finish with some lingering herbal hoppiness in the aftertaste.

Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

Good blend of flavors here, definitely emphasizing hops but in a fresh uncluttered way that presents more than mere bitterness without overshadowing the malt.

 

Drinking Schlenkerla Urbock. Predictably enough this beer is sweeter and more full bodied compared with the Märzen. I find that it is less smoke forward than the Märzen, here darker malt flavors seem to have the upper hand as opposed to smoke flavor, and it is capped with some roasted malt flavor. Maybe the higher original gravity helps bring out the underlying malt flavor of the smoked malt used. There is also a good balancing bitterness in this beer. I am reminded of Carnegie Porter to a certain extent by the dark malt flavors and sweetness coupled with the roasted malt flavor (though the body of this beer is of course fuller). It's a tasty bock beer for sure. Best before date is 25/8 2018 so it's pretty fresh I'm assuming.

Weather is trying to clear up been mostly sunny some strong winds here and there. Just got back to the condo after about 3 hours on the beach. Wife is pale as a ghost and can't handle too much sun at a time so I'm on the deck enjoying the view again. Surf was calm today.
