Can anyone make me some recommendations for downtown St. Paul? Staying at the Doubletree in a few weeks. We are planning on checking out Barrel Theory. Are 12welve Eyes ( I have irrational hate for that name. Is it pronounced Twelvewelve? Because it should be) , Tin Whiskers, anything else worth checking out? Any bars/stores within walking distance with good tap lists/selections? Any info would be appreciated

I'd skip Tin Whiskers and venture a short distance down West 7th to Bad Weather and/or Summit. Can't comment on 12twelve12eyez.

I second walking to West 7th and going to New Bohemia and Bad Weather. Waldmann is right next to Bad Weather, but it doesn’t open until Sunday, so I can’t tell you how the beer is. If you have time to kill and already went to Barrel Theory, you might as well check out Tin Whiskers and Twelvewelve Eyes. They aren’t great, but they’re also not bad. Lowertown Wine and Spirits is probably the best bottle shop within walking distances. I would recommend going to Heritage on your way out of town.

I know it is not Saint Paul, but I would recommend going to Wild Mind if you can swing it. Two words, Pash Bash!

It's on the top of the itinerary! We are planning on heading there first before checking into the hotel and settling in to St. Paul for the night.

12welve Eyes is pronounced "Twelve Eyes," and it has impressed me greatly to date. I highly recommend it for well-made, flavor-packed beers in a variety of styles. It's modern without overindulging in fads. It's much more consistent and well-rounded than Barrel Theory, which so far has experienced massive batch variation (which can be part of the fun) and has catered solely to sweet-toothed consumers (admittedly a large segment), limiting its output to juicy IPAs, heavily fruited kettle sours, and sweet stouts. But definitely check out both.

I second the Bad Weather / Waldmann recommendation on West 7th close to downtown. Bad Weather is an above average craft brewery, and at minimum Waldmann should have a unique taproom atmosphere (evoking/reviving a mid-19th century German-American saloon).

Downtown/Lowertown/West 7th beer bars include World of Beer, Dark Horse, The Bulldog, Ox Cart, and New Bohemia.

If I could make a restaurant recommendation, Saint Dinette is downtown St. Paul and has an awesome brunch and a great cheeseburger, if you're looking for a hangover fix.

There is a bus that will take you to Northfield. There are two breweries there.

Like what has been said before: don't be afraid to jump on a metro transit bus if you have time.# 21 bus will take you down Selby Ave to the Red Cow, then The Happy Gnome, then The Muddy Pig.

"Rum King 2017 will be released to stores, bars, and restaurants on draft and in 12 oz. cans the week of October 9th."

There was a sneak peek this past week at a few Old Chicago Restaurants, but if last year is any indication, it will be in widespread circulation within a week or so.
