Yeah its incredibly tasty... seemed to me that the sweetness was balanced by the barrel. Well done, Odell!

That Rye Whiskey Barrel was a very nice compliment to the base beer of Lugene, IMO. Didn't quite love it, but definitely enjoyed it. Happy to have bought my bottle, but one is enough for me. Better than the original, IMO.

Good lord, the riches we endure this week. Wiley Roots released a Whiskey-Barrel aged Stout somewhat quietly yesterday, it still sold out in under 2 hours.

Weldwerks was cool, they were encouraging people to go over to Wiley to support them as well.

They're definitely boys. WR certainly has some delicious offerings as well... there seems to be a lot of mutual respect in Greeley.

I missed out on those 375’s at WR. What did they end up naming it?

The Wiley Roots bottles are mostly 750 ml in size. This one was called Dark Premise and they had it on tap as well.

They also had a BA passion fruit saison and a BA sour with blackberries and 2nd-use peaches further aged in white wine barrels for 6 months.

ETA: In my opinion, Wiley Roots is probably the most underrated brewery in Colorado. Their bomber release sour beers are really fantastic, and get very little hype. Taproom always has a big selection and prices are good. If they still have the Galaxy dry-hopped sour that beer was money- as was the coffee sour. Oops this is a stout thread. :/

Going from memory here but I thought the Laws BA Stout was released in 375’s?

...and they hadn’t named it at last check so was curious (format notwithstanding) what they called it. Anyone know?

^see above, it's called "Dark Premise" and he said mostly in 750ml.. so you're correct, these were in 375ml. for the lazy - https://www.instagram.com/wileyrootsbrewingco/

    Ask and ye shall receive:

That weird shopping bag canvas-like stuff.
    No.
    Other bottles work.
You can drink from it brown bag style.
    Not weather proof.
    Not terribly sturdy.
    Friends won't give a f.
    Pretty light weight.

Did anybody get any of the Cerebral Trophy Hunt? I just happened to be walking by last Friday around 11 and was amazed at the line...

I tried Trophy Hunt at Rare. It was good, but all of those beers kinda taste the same to me. Especially last week when I had like 100 of them.

There's a "Bourbon Barrel Stout" on Odell's 2017 release calendar. Anyone seen it out in the wild? Any info out there on it?

Probably the whiskey-barrel aged Lugene that just came out?

I tried some of "the Smoothness" at GABF but honestly I have no impression of what it tasted like. It's supposed to be an imperial dark lager aged in Jameson casks, I guess?

ETA: I tried Ska brewing's "Rye Whiskey Imperial Stout" or whatever the official name is. It's about $12 for a 650ml bottle. It's a bit thin, and it's not real DARK, but the flavor is really nice on this one, and it's pretty smooth as well. I recommend people try it if they are on the fence. The barrel comes through nicely on this one.

I’m leaning more and more towards this sentiment. Yeah they’re oftentimes really good, but I just don’t typically get nearly the complexity, variety, and/or nuance from a BA stout versus a regular imperial stout....

Yeah, I mean they're rarely if ever bad. I just think they all taste mostly the same. The difference between the best and worst ones isn't that huge. Obviously the adjunct ones are more distinct, but I'm not sure distinct really means "better" - just maybe a little more obvious. Still, they're rarely bad and they're pretty accessible. Unless you hate whiskey, things got infected, or the stout is old AF, it's hard to genuinely dislike them.

I'm tending to think like this even more lately. As long as it doesnt have the overly woody flavor from the barrel being overused and it has a good base. I'm set. Needs to taste like the booze it was aged in though.

Not CO based, but Fremont BBA Dark Star + Variants arrived today (below cost at brewery too, and early).

I say this because I grabbed my one bottle each and am completely content.

    Keep an eye out tomorrow!

Dammit. Probably gonna miss these. My car got crushed by a tree in the "storm" on Monday. Anyone know if Argonaut got any? That's the only good store within walking distance for me

Yeah I saw dark star and 2 variants for $17, $18 for the latter. Had to pass... holding out for the regular Narwhal that I hear is coming in 6 packs this year!
