The bartender told me bottles were done and have been quality tested and that she drank some yesterday. So should be out today. They were close to dropping it yesterday

I like Drunk Monk but think it's a little too heavy on the banana/bubblegum flavor. I'm still yet to find an American made Hefe that comes close to the profile of a tradtional German one. Maybe one day...

I seem to be alone in the experience that I had. I got lots of wet pine on the nose, with extreme amounts of hop presence to the point that if it had not had some stout characters, I would not have even known it was a stout. I unfortunately got no coffee.

I knew I had a sensitive pallet. But Jesus. It let me down, and it makes me sad.

Had it on tap at the brewpub over the weekend. Thought it was a fantastic coffee stout with a hint of barrel. Maybe you got a bad bottle? Have you been sick lately? Where you eating anything while drinking it?

I agree. I thought it was excellent as well. Sledgehammer of coffee with a kiss of barrel.

I have yet to have this batch, but I have never experienced anything close to that with Crack the Skye or Wig Splitter. That's really interesting.

I've had an off tasting Wigsplitter once but hardly ever happens. Wigsplitter batches vary so much.

The batch released right before this year's DLD was so damn good. We even found coffee grounds at the bottom of the bottle. It was the most espresso driven Wigsplitter bottle ive had and it was so good

3 Floyds doesn't do much wrong when coffee is involved

Yea - so rather than quote everyone that quoted me, I am just going to respond to everyone at once =).

I opened it the night I posted (or the night before - can't recall when I posted) at about 45 degrees. As soon as I opened the bottle I got wet pine. As I poured it, more wet pine. I only poured about 8 ounces into a snifter. I slowly tried to drink it over about 2 hours, letting it (and the bottle) warm. As it warmed I got more of the malty - stout flavor on the back end, but still the entire time I got wet pine hops on the front. Very first thing to hit my palette. Just undrinkable for me =/. No coffee or hint of Barrel or anything but wet pine followed briefly by "generic stout".

In an effort to try to save it - I put it back in the fridge (the bottle) and let it sit for 2 days. I tried it each night. Both times the hop character was reduced (probably 20% the first night, maybe 10% more the second), but still full of hops.

I've been wanting to try this ever since I began reading posts saying "crack the skye ruined pretty much every coffee stout for me. So good!" -And I was dissapointed due to an extremely sensitive palette.

I discussed this with @FFFjunkie , as he knows that I have an extreme bitter sensitivity and thus can't do IPAs (even "sweet" ones come off bitter to me, and frequently "sweet" adjunct laden stouts like Vlad with rasp and Wide Awake have come off more bitter than other stouts that are not considered "as sweet"). That said, I don't inherently dislike hops. I think they can be pleasant - I can appreciate what Zombie Dust is for example, it's just that the bitterness wrecks me. That said, I really dislike hops where I don't want them. I really dislike Gumball Head for that very reason - I don't want hops in a wheat beer. As a result, since what I got in Crack the Skye was so much hops - I really was dissapointed by that, and it was undrinkable to me =(.

Again, I understand that this is a "me" issue. I just wish it wasn't. I have a fantastic pallets for food (very discerning), but apparently for beer - Jesus! Picky, picky, picky!!!

Are they slowly giving up on Backmasking?I hope so. I never see it and I'm not that into it. Hopefully Wigsplitter takes it shelf space.

@Beer_Economicus - very interesting to hear your tasting notes. I'd be curious how you feel about it if you try a pour again. I frequently wonder about the variability of bottles, and I wonder if yours may have been different somehow.
