No must visits. I would go to the beer bars before breweries. Also the brewpubs are a hit.
    The Porter
    Brick Store Pub
    Wrecking Bar Brewpub
    Torched Hop Brewpub

Don't give scofflaw your time or money.

can't say enough good things about The Porter. that bottle / cellar list must be 50 pages.

I'd say must stops are wrecking bar (putting out the best beer in Georgia) and the porter. Brick Store isn't that special but they have a good cellar list. Most of that is on porters cellar list. Breweries: Scofflaw, Monday Night Garage, 3 taverns are all good. People saying don't go to scofflaw are just butt hurt over some social media posts, wouldn't listen to them. They are brewing very good beer and everything on tap is tasty. Cans have had some consistency issues. Have a great trip!

Three Taverns for sure, and since you're right there you can do Blue Tarp, Wild Heaven, and Twain's all in one day with minimal travel. After those you have probably two dozen solid bars locally in Decatur with good to awesome taplists. There really is no need to venture out anywhere else.

Otherwise, The Wrecking Bar and The Porter in L5P, there's several good bars closeby there too and The Corner Tavern a block away has the best burger in Atlanta.

What's the deal with the disdain for Scofflaw? I was there last month and enjoyed everything I had.

Their canning has had major issues. Literally six different beers in a 6pk. That, and the owner going off on FB about not having any issues and blaming everyone and everything else if there is, saying all other local beer is mediocre, uninspiring, mundane, acting like a badass because he's been in jail, and telling potential and loyal customers to fuck off.

Thanks for filling me in. I visit family in Atlanta but I live up north so I'm not totally plugged into the scene.

Wrecking Bar/Porter bar combo for the best spots in GA. Orpheus is doing so cool things with sours and stouts. Ipa's are ok. Argosy is another amazing bar that opens super late with a stellar list. Last things I haven't mentioned is both Hop City locations that are both Atlanta top bottle shops and have bars. Sprayberry Bottle Shop if you find yourself out of the perimeter. Brij Patel takes great care of all his fans and has a shop as great as hop city. Tell him Isaac Luke sent you

Taco Mac’s a great place to eat and enjoy local brews

If you are outside of the city sure. If closer to any of the other options it’s passable.

What about Vortex? I heard about good eats there but what about craft beer?

No, it's not. Taco Macs do have a very large taplist, true, but you'll be lucky to find one who cleans their lines regularly or at least tries to keep like beers on the same lines. Too many sours replaced with IPAs or stouts following pales for the beers to taste right. Also, the food is horrible. If you enjoy microwaved frozen food, have at it. There is nothing even remotely fresh in their kitchens.

Decent taplist sometimes, very mediocre food at best. Going there is just for the gimmick, period. There is no reason to go there with the large amount of way better choices only blocks away.

Sprayberry has a 1/5 the selection of Hop City on a good day. You're right though, he takes care of his 'fans'. Strangers and newcomers, not at all.

Heading to Atlanta Wednesday, don't have a lot of time so was going to hit the porter and maybe wrecking bar. Wrecking bar doesn't open until 4. We are going to a show at Phillips that night and staying down there. What would be the best bottle shop to hit up in L5P area?

    Any other suggestions are welcome!

Hop City Krog Street is your best bet in that area and not too much of a walk or Uber depending on where you're staying in L5P. They've got a bar as well and great selection.
