What beer are you drinking now? #1813

Good morning BAs! Getting a late start today after a late finish earlier. Today's New Breakfast Beer:



Technically not a new beer- I had two at a beerfest in Pittsburgh 10+ years ago, but I never reviewed it on BA until today.

 

Hammond River Brewing's (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) Gammie California Steam Ale!

Quite a bit more hop presence here than the average California Steam Ale, but an excellent beer nonetheless. Happy Saturday, BA's!

Drinking down the cellar continues. Gotta tune the drums and get some practice in, then it's a walk to the power line and try to hit some oak trees and juicy stumps for mushrooms. Nothing like a good thick stout to get the mind right. Mmmmm, cellar temp FTW. Cheers!

Home now with a local blonde ale, "Golden Mile", from La Catarina Craft Beer SL, Marbella, Spain:



Lite clove, floral hop (Hersbrucker, Saaz, Perle) and kinda watery. Easy drinking and refreshing.

Today we visited the Orchidarium situated on Calle Salvador Dali in Estepona, allegedly the largest collection of orchids in Europe. Many varieties, but most were quite small - very few were flowering. Cool space regardless:



After the Orchids we had lunch refreshments - a "Cruzcampo" Lager on tap (the Miller of Spain) for me:

Dark, dark color with hints of gold at the edges. Khaki colored cap and lacing.

Aroma of roasted malt leaning toward coffeeish, something fresh in the background which is probably hops.

Tastes like a quality Porter, or that's my first impression. There are the usual dark elements of roast malt, coffee, chocolate without sweetness, hops are evident by mid palate and last to the finish. Hops here offer a fine counterpoint to the malts and the brew is better for it. Aftertaste has pleasant elements of all the above.

Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

A refreshing change from the heavy stouts while keeping the qualities that make such brews popular. What I get from this brew is an overall sense of cleanness without anything untoward standing out. Well balanced.

 

Just out of curiosity, what makes it a special edition?

Stone Xocoveza. 8.1% From sixer bottled 9/27/17. First time trying these and i want to buy more. Better than expected.

 

Looks like a movie day, probably Battle of the Sexes.
Drinking this Hoppy Marzen from von Trapp Brewing. It's a very nice beer, but is it a Marzen or an IPA?
